Meet Lalonna Winslow and Balynda Western of Rhea Lana’s of Mesa in East Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lalonna Winslow and Balynda Western.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lalonna and Balynda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was first introduced to Rhea Lana’s when I was a single mother. I was struggling to provide for my son the same lifestyle that we were used to. When I stumbled upon the event, I quickly found there were name brand clothes and lightly used toys for a fraction of a cost. This was just what I needed and had been looking for. After purchasing my items, I saw the opportunity to consign myself and make a few extra dollars on the side. It was truly the best of both worlds. I always knew that I wanted to open a Rhea Lana’s of my own to help other moms and dads in need. The market in Arkansas was saturated so my family and I decided to move back to Arizona to start a franchise of our own. I spoke with my sister, Balynda and she was in. We have always been big on helping others, and this felt like the perfect way to do so.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting your own business will always present some challenges. We’ve encountered a few ourselves. We work full-time in addition to owning and putting on the Rhea Lana’s of Mesa event. We have only had one event here in Mesa and our biggest challenge was getting the word out on such a short notice. Most of our consignors were close friends and family and we saw most of our traffic as the event was ending. I know as we build name recognition the event will grow and we will be able to bless more families.

Please tell us about Rhea Lana’s of Mesa.
Rhea Lana’s is the nation’s premier children’s consignment event. Clothing and Connecting Families since 1997. We are a bi-annual (1 week in Fall and Spring) consignment event of HIGH-QUALITY children’s clothes, shoes, toys, books, DVDs, baby items, gently used maternity clothes and much much more. Consignors enter their items into our easy to use the online system, prepare and price their own items, and make 70% of all items that are purchased during the week of the sale. Consignors can review their sales LIVE online throughout the week and then pick up their check on the final day, along with their unsold items. We are very proud that we GUARANTEE all items (i.e. if an unsold item is not returned, then we will pay the consignor 70% of the price of that item). If consignors choose, unsold items can be left and we will donate them to a few hand-picked local charities. Just one more way we give back to the community.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Our favorite childhood memory is hanging out as sisters. We lived in a technology-free world where we didn’t even have cable and spent most of our hours in the great outdoors in the mountains of San Diego. It was a different world back then, where children could explore, carefree in the great outdoors.
