Meet Lacey Konjevich

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Konjevich.

Hi Lacey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Plants by Pony was started during the pandemic by combining my life-long passion for all things distinctive, a love of plants, and a desire to make people happy. As a single Mom, I have always looked for creative ways to be my own boss so that I can maintain a measure of freedom for the more important things.

While spending more time at home, I started experimenting with growing and propagating… this evolved into creating unique succulent, cacti, and house plant arrangements both real and faux… and helping them find new forever homes! I decided to fully commit and purchased my own kiln last year, at that point I knew there was no turning back! I offer handmade pottery pieces from my home studio as well as up-cycled vintage containers and baskets of all shapes and sizes.

I started selling to my friends and family on Instagram then expanded to popup markets on the weekends and finally landed my own little permanent Boutique space! This journey has been wild and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have been some challenges juggling my day job and volunteer work with my hobby turned business during this transition period.

Also, supply chain/shipping issues for some of the products I need to cause the need for me to be creative and think outside the box in order to pivot and keep moving forward.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Plants by Pony’s goal is to make the empty spaces in your home pop!

From homemade pottery to embellished cow skulls and plant accented custom basket walls. I offer personal in-home and event styling to ensure that you achieve exactly the look you’re hoping to. I specialize in handbuilt and home glazed pottery planters; I’m most proud of my mushroom pots.

They are a labor of love but so detailed and unique, truly worth every minute! I’m most known for my unique succulent arrangements and rare cacti and plant offerings. No two arrangements are alike… I thrive on foraging for one-of-a-kind vessels from the natural world like seashells and driftwood to vintage pieces that have lived long beautiful lives and will continue to tell their story in a fresh way.

Every time you visit my shop in person or online you’re guaranteed to walk away with something that NOBODY else has… and that’s what keeps people coming back for more.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I do believe that risks can result in growth. If you stay in your comfort zone at all times you will miss opportunities to challenge yourself and learn new things.

After only selling on social media for four months I took a risk, jumped out there, and submitted an application for my first in-person market. It was a huge opportunity and undertaking… a special 3-day market event.

I was accepted and I learned so much from that first show! It set my little business on a trajectory to do big things and I’m so glad I threw myself out there.
