Meet Kimberly Chapman of Sole Serenity in Old Town Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Chapman.

Kimberly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started doing nails as a hobby 25 years ago, 21 years professionally. I made the choice to do it after I became sober from substance abuse. I had worked in a couple of different salons between Chicago and Arizona. And the #1 complaint I kept hearing was it wasn’t relaxing enough and there was too much “drama”. So I wanted to make a peaceful affordable serene place for clients to relax without the “big spa” prices. Then came along my youngest medical fragile daughter 2 1/2 years ago. That made me want to be even more serene and very clean and sterile environment. I was her only care provider and the nurse even while at work. I strive every day for my 3 children. They know mommy is happy and loves what she does while at work

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Summertime and December are my 2 hardest obstacles. Summer old town Scottsdale becomes a ghost town. And December because having 2 children’s birthday in December and of course the holiday.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I came up with the name Sole like the Sole of one’s foot because the pedicures (the most challenge better) are my favorite Service to perform. Serenity is because I provide a tranquil (essential oils) serene and clean environment. I am most proud of my Yelp reviews and the fact I am still open after 4 years being on my own. I feel what sets me apart from the other nail salons is that I’m very sterile and clean and I educate people of what I am doing and why I am doing it. Down to disinfecting and sanitizing (they is a difference between the two) and dehydrating and rehydrating the nails.

What were you like growing up?
I was very odd and disorganized. But my workspace has to be organized for each service. I was artistic and athletic. The artistic side one. I was also a rebel without a cause.
