Meet Kevin Wathey of Synchronicity Yoga in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Wathey.

Kevin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Yoga did not originally pull me in like it has in the past few years. Coming from an acting background, I was surrounded by many practitioners but it wasn’t until I was given the opportunity to perform and train my craft in Bali, Indonesia in the summer of 2014 that yoga took hold. It was during this time I found a daily practice and noticed the mindful benefits, not just the physical ones. Returning back to Arizona, I immediately realized this was something I was passionate about and soon thereafter I enrolled to begin my Yoga Teacher Training at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. Graduating with a passion to share, Synchronicity Yoga was founded.

Has it been a smooth road?
When it comes to owning your own business there will always be hurdles along the way. I am fortunate enough to live my life by the mantra “Education is what is done to you, learning is what you do to yourself.” I feel a lot of individuals identify a degree in the arts as inferior, but I recognized its strengths. I can read books to teach me the ins and outs of business, but can you read a book to teach you presence on stage or in a meeting, how to communicate effectively or how to emotionally connect with someone on an interpersonal level, no.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Originally, Synchronicity Yoga was founded because I was in a position to run the yoga program at a luxury resort in the valley. Since then, I have focused on more privatized instruction. I love the opportunity to work with individuals who are driven and with this personal approach, I am able to focus on their particular goals. Through private teaching, I was lucky enough to meet someone who shared my values and noticed how much breath work/yoga actually helped him in the corporate setting. Ultimately, Prasentia LLC was formed with the mission statement “We help you communicate effectively.”

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Location is always what you make it. There is a vast demographic of practitioners in the valley and events to get your foot involved in the commUNITY are hosted weekly. If anyone is interested in getting involved locally, please feel free to reach out. Another fantastic resource is Lululemon as most stores have a commUNITY calendar and event pages online!
