Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Turner.
Kevin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I spent most of my early years drawing the world around me. It was a gift I did not understand fully until later in life. The most interesting thing to me about drawing was recreating the human body, it held many answers and even more questions. This talent was what unwittingly led me to discover running and football during my high school years.
My athletic career in college turned out to be cyclical rehabilitation sessions that never yielded a full recovery or a reason as to why these injuries occurred in the first place. Post senior year, I grew impatient with my therapists and decided to address the issue myself. I began looking at the human body in the way I did when drawing. As an artist, I recognized proportions, esthetics, balance, detail, unique differences and the role they all played to make up the body and it’s functionality. I realized that the smallest things mattered most, and any misstep could lead to injury over time. I also realized that it took a lot of proper repetitions and time to train the body to respond the way I wanted it to, similarly to how drawing with my left hand took longer to do what I did with my right hand so effortlessly. With this knowledge, I fixed my injuries and came across many other unseen and overlooked factors in overall health training and performance development.
I gradually came to realize that strength training as we perceive it, is flawed in its foundation as well as its implementation and that there were factors not addressed at all. With this initial revelation, the first step to “The WAY Method” was born.
I decided to open my own facility to teach what I had learned and I called it the CORE facility. Unlike the definition that the “fitness industry” would like you to accept, I chose to adopt the dictionary definition. “A central and often foundational part usually distinct from the enveloping part by a difference in nature” and “The MOST IMPORTANT or most basic part of something” In the case of the human being, our MIND is the aforementioned. Without it, we are an immobile skin-bag of various tissues and bones. What most in the “fitness industry” call “core”, is the midsection! It has no more importance than its connecting parts. “TRAIN IT ALL!” Especially the matter that matters most- Grey matter.”
I officially established THE CORE FACILITY in 2005 to give this knowledge to the next generation and better the performance and health of young athletes, professional athletes and the general public. To date my young athletes have made it to Division one schools such as Stanford, Ohio State, Indiana University, ASU, U of A, West Point and so on. I have trained professional athletes in the NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS and a variety of other sports.
I select my clients based on their aptitude to learn new things because I cannot fill a cup that is already full. The method also requires the absolute removal of the EGO driven mentality. The focus is inside – on the deliberate connection to individual muscles and individual muscles and individual fibers of each muscle group for a more responsive and fully controlled body. This hyper focus creates a stronger and more reactive overall frame, as well as an increase in connective tissue strength. There is nothing like it!

Has it been a smooth road?
As in life, ups and downs are necessary for growth. The most challenging thing is making potential students aware of my business.

My specialty is developing the fundamentals in athletic performance for young athletes, professional athletes and those seeking an alignment-based approach that ensures injury prevention in fitness. I am a former athlete with a system based on over 30 years of experiential testing. Dropping weights to the floor and grunting out repetitions is not what my business is about. Those who truly knows what makes an exceptional athlete or a successful businessperson great, knows that the thing that separates them from the rest is a strong mind. I am known for combining that will with body optimization to make a better designed you.
With my mind-body system, I focus on the development of individual groups of muscle and I find and eliminate weak points that lead to injury or subpar performance and continuously challenge the client as they reach pre-determined thresholds. This system is called “the WAY” and it separates me from all other systems of training, it is foundational to all training methods! The drive to help young clients attain scholarships to top-notch Universities is what makes me most proud of what I do. Besides my training, there are a few things that me apart. First, there are no shoes allowed on the training floor because training in bare feet strengthen the foot and the ankle, which leads to a stronger foundation. Additionally, I have a selection process for clients because smaller groups are essential in providing necessary attention to each client when teaching proper technique.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I appreciate the athletic community and business opportunities that this city provides. Coming from areas with a lot of trees, what I like the least about the city is the lack of greenery but I’m in the desert so it is what it is.
