Meet Kevin Keegan of No Big Secret Yoga and Astrology in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Keegan.

Kevin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I became interested in the subject of astrology when I was a teenager. One of my friends had a copy of ‘The Birthday Book”. I remember paging through the hardcover and being fascinated by the accuracy of the descriptions in the book. I got into the study of Kriya Yoga throughout the Self Realization Fellowship. Wanting to know more, I enrolled in the Kriya Yoga Seminary Program at The Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago Illinois.

I used the knowledge I gained there to advance my practice in the areas of meditation of consciousness studies. The greatest gem that I ran across was the science of Vedic Astrology, also known as Indian astrology through people in the Self Realization Fellowship. It turned out that practice of Yoga and Vedic Astrology were intimately linked. Through self-study and taking a certification course through the American College of Vedic Astrology, I advanced my knowledge. I now use all these practices during my consultations with clients to help them resolve their karma.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the most difficult thing for me was to build up confidence in my ability to read a Vedic Astrology Chart. The science of Vedic Astrology goes back 5000 years to ancient India and involves thousands of calculations. The sheer amount of information presented in a birth chart can be overwhelming if you do not know where to.

I started by doing free readings for people on the Pericope platform in a Scope that I do call “Ask an Astrologer”. I did about five hundred chart readings in the course of a year and was astounded how accurate the system was, just based off of a quick reading. Moving to face to face readings was a challenge starting out because each astrologer has their own particular style of reading. After doing many of these, I came into my own and decided to add the practice of Kriya yoga to services. Now I can use both Vedic Astrology and Kriya Yoga to help people “Silence Thier Inner Bull” so to speak.

Please tell us about No Big Secret Yoga and Astrology.
I founded No Big Secret Yoga and Astrology in 2015 out of the what I saw as a need in the Yogic community. Yoga has lost its way from the original teachings codified in the Yoga Sutras, being boiled down to the perception of a series of stretches. In my mind, this debases what is probably the oldest and most accurate methodology for the science of consciousness and how we can gain awareness.

Astrology has also suffered the same fate as Yoga. When I asked people what they know about astrology, many times their knowledge is limited to what they see in an article written about Sun signs in the form or horoscopes. Many astrologers do this because publishers will only produce articles written this way. In reality, astrology is the oldest form of divination known to man, going back to ancient Sumeria. My mission is to help educate people and enlighten them to their own potential.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood was exploring the woods outside my house in Milwaukee.
