Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelvin Truong.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
The idea of photography never crossed my mind until I started high school in 2009. That’s when everything started. I vaguely remember picking up a digital point-and-shoot camera which I used to post pictures on my personal blog at the time. I enjoyed taking pictures and having a collection to look back at. Over time, I noticed a lot of people liked my work as well. I tasted the art of photography, and I couldn’t get enough. Eventually, I got a DSLR (Canon EOS Rebel T3) on my birthday in 2012. You wouldn’t believe the number of pictures that I’d take. I enjoyed it so much. In my senior year of high school, I started to do more portraitures. I realized I was pretty good with portraits and I also enjoyed them a lot more. I started posting them on my personal Instagram account, and a lot of friends and mutuals asked for photo shoots. And well, that’s where I am today.
Please tell us about your art.
I create portraitures with my friends as models. The camera I currently own is the Canon EOS 6D Mark II. I edit my photos in Lightroom and Photoshop if needed. I have this certain aesthetic that I enjoy. It’s usually very simple. I like to apply that to my photography. I don’t think there’s a certain message that I’m trying to get across to my audience. I just take photos for them to enjoy and as long as they enjoy it, then I’m content.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
There are many financial decisions that must be made in this path for sure. Cameras, lenses, equipments, and editing programs used in photography can be quite pricey. My advice to those struggling on their artwork due to financial concerns would be that you can create art from nothing. I’ve seen plenty of talented people create art with the bare minimum. You don’t need top-notch media in order to do what you love.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Anyone can view my work on my Instagram account. 🙂
