Meet Kelly Perry of Lucky Paws Arizona in Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Perry.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kelly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Rescuing animals from caged facilities and understanding the fear and anxiety that is inherent, Lucky Paws decided to build cage free as a way to rehabilitate and socialize animals in a cage-free environment. Many animals have found their way into our loving Sanctuary. Besides the typical dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, ferrets etc. Our new Sanctuary has goats, a pig, chickens, and Peacocks. We provide an outreach program to school-age children valley wide as to the importance of spaying and neutering and showing compassion and kindness for all animals. As a way to reduce stress in our rescue animals lives we are not open to the public but provide a monthly social club called Yappy hour as a way to bring together the public and their Fur Kids as well as meet and greet with some of our featured adoptable. Yappy Thanksgiving will be at the Omni resort at Montelucia Nov 15th from 630-830 pm.Our yearly events include golf tournament in the spring, estate sale, and the popular amongst volunteers and guests is our Fall Fur Ball.

Has it been a smooth road?
The most difficult challenge is trying to educate people on a huge level to the importance of a lifelong commitment to whichever breed of animal you choose. We don’t turn in our human children when times get tough or we move or meet someone new etc. It is heartbreaking to see the emotion inside a animals eyes at the uncertainty of their future because someone didn’t view them as important enough to go the extra step. The kill facilities should not be an option for a member of one’s family. We installed a co adoptor section on our adoption forms so if something goes wrong or a person passes on etc the animal will never have the double stress of ending up with their lives in jeopardy.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lucky Paws Arizona story. Tell us more about the business.
We feel that by going cage-free and allowing animals to co-exist the way the would in a real home was a great way to mentor future generations of animal rescuers. We bottle feed many critters all year round ao they are always a favorite to bring tp the schools.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I feel that the world is becoming more pet-friendly all the time and we are seeing more apartment housing allowing renters to have pets. As well as pet-friendly hotels and restaurants.
