Meet Kelly Megyese, Matt Megyese of Illuminate You Fitness in Ahwatukee Foothills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Megyese, Matt Megyese.

Kelly , Matt, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Timing is everything. We’ve been fortunate to live in many great cities over the last twenty years. With each move, we’ve found ourselves embracing the area and people. When we relocated to Ahwatukee Foothills, Phoenix, AZ in June of 2018 we quickly saw something special. The beautiful landscape, quaint charm, neighborly feel, and economic potential are unlike any area we’ve lived in before.

People and places are a source of inspiration, but life is the calling. We have been married for a long time and together for even longer. Things have been great collectively, but not without work. It takes a conscious effort to consistently do things which make you happy. It takes patience and persistence to overcome roadblocks in life. When it comes to fitness, we have found that developing habits to achieve body and mind balance require the same discipline – initiative, commitment, support, and time.

We started Illuminate You Fitness to share what we’ve learned and to provide support for ‘finding your shine.’ A physically and mentally strong foundation is critical for a healthy lifestyle and can help with confidence throughout life. It’s about focusing on you for a moment and that’s ok.

Has it been a smooth road?
While our journey is just getting started, we have encountered a few bumps along the way, specifically in the area of diversifying our client base. When people hear ‘barre’, there are a lot of preconceived notions. Some immediately think of ballet or dancing or think classes only benefit women/younger/already-fit clients. In reality, barre is for everybody and every body.

Barre classes are low-impact, full-body workouts that blend elements of yoga, Pilates, and strength training. Classes are designed to sculpt and strengthen muscles, while also increasing flexibility and balance. While they are challenging, the classes are ideal not only for those just starting a fitness routine but also for those looking to complement other fitness activities such as biking or running. In addition, they are safe for both younger and older clients – and are just as effective for men as they are for women.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Illuminate You Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
Illuminate You Fitness (IYF) offers mobile barre classes meaning we aren’t tied to one space. By collaborating with individuals and local businesses, we mix up the environment providing a varied experience. Think of us as a ‘pop-up’ that offers low-impact fitness sessions in the Phoenix, AZ area. This doesn’t mean they are easy – blending elements of barre, Pilates, yoga, and strength training provides a total body workout for any fitness level. IYF classes are great on their own or can complement any workout plan.

Support can help encourage positive thoughts and promote desired behaviors. We think the fitness industry is often saturated with ‘visions of perfection,’ so our social media motivation is to help inspire and strengthen your mindset. No comparisons – we want you to envision what success looks like. We are different because so are YOU.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We anticipate a few trends that will continue to be areas of growth in our industry.

Group training – finding a sense of community and comradery help clients stay motivated and engaged in their workouts.

Barre workouts – these classes provide safe, effective, and efficient full-body workouts with the added benefits of balance, flexibility, and strength gains.

Fitness programs for older adults – for the aging population, working out and staying active with programs specific to their age group can have lasting benefits in both physical and mental wellness.
