Meet Karen Nowicki of Phoenix Business RadioX in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Nowicki.

Karen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In everything I’ve ever done professionally, I’m always about helping others. From my early days in the Kyrene School District as a Third Grade Teacher and Assistant Principal; to my work as an Integrative Coach Professional in private practice for the past 10 years; to now, owning & operating Phoenix Business RadioX ®, the greatest gift I have to offer is to be still and listen.

In April 2016, I was researching podcasting to see if it would be a good fit for me as I wanted to significantly increase my ability to meet more executive leaders and business owners – my client base.

We all know that through candid and real conversations, we are more likely to collaborate and do business with people we know, like and trust. When I read about the positive impact Business RadioX ® has had on businesses in Atlanta and Florida for the past 10 years, I knew I needed to provide the same opportunity for our business community here in Arizona. Two short months later, Phoenix Business RadioX ® was born!

Has it been a smooth road?
Is there really such a thing as a smooth road? When I look back at the struggles I’ve had in my life (both personal and professional), it’s the very notion of believing that things should come “easy” or be “smooth” that kept me feeling scared and unsure of myself much longer than I needed before powering through whatever challenge or roadblock is in front of me.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We amplify the voice of business. We serve the Fortune 500,000, not just the Fortune 500. We help local business and professional associations get the word out about the important work they’re doing to serve their market, profession, and community.

We feature LIVE “Long-Form” radio interviews and in-depth conversations with local Business Leaders — reaching 100% intentional and engaged listeners. After the live broadcast, we publish the recording as a creative commons podcast for ever-lasting exposure for our guests and sponsors.

Phoenix Business RadioX ® is part of the larger network. In Q4 of 2017, we had over 13 Million Downloads. Business RadioX ® is usually the #1 or #2 Google organic search result for “Business Radio” in the markets we serve (goes back and forth between us and Bloomberg depending on Guests each week).

In the 8 months, we’ve been in operation, I am most proud of the local business owners who are now hosting and sponsoring their own shows on our network:

-Lisa Rehurek – “Winning Business Radio” powered by Rehurricane Enterprises
-Jodi Low – “Leadership Lowdown” powered by U & Improved
-Jon Deiter – “Business Solutions” powered by jondeiter Solutions, LLC
-Barb Regis – “Best of Health” powered by Ask The PA
-Jeanine Doughtery – “destination lifestyle & design” powered by jnine designs, LLC
-JoAnn Holland – “Ladies Leadership Circle” powered by JoAnn Holland Enterprises
-Joe Pusz – “Project Management Office Hours” powered by The PMO Squad
-Cynthia Diehl – “Resilience Radio” powered by RISE Strengths

Our secret sauce is how we help business owners develop their “show concept” before they even think about who their guests will be. Our ongoing going coaching around production, follow-up and exposure is what sets us apart from others in the B2B radio/podcasting space.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?

It’s funny you ask this because it is the very question that Stone Payton and Lee Kantor (Business Radio X ® Co-founders), posed while on our first call when I asked, “Why aren’t you broadcasting in Phoenix/Scottsdale yet?”, they said, “Why should we?”

The Valley of the Sun has been my home since 1979 when my dad moved our family here from the San Francisco Bay area to establish the Litton Electronics Fabrication Plant in Tempe. I graduated from McClintock H.S., was an administrator in Kyrene S.D. and our two oldest children are finishing up their BS degrees at W.P. Carey School of Business at ASU. Not only is the metro Phoenix known for its year-round sunshine and family-friendly/active lifestyle neighborhoods, we are among the top ranking cities for business growth in almost every category and industry.

Our business community is known for collaboration, mentorship and innovation. If you are just starting out, I suggest you surround yourself with people who have paved the way ahead of you and more importantly, are willing to share their wisdom and connections with you.
