Meet K. Tuesday Werner of Surya Yoga and Wellness in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to K. Tuesday Werner.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My first encounter with yoga was in 2007 with one goal, and was mainly for physical reason. At that time, I was unsure of what to expect. I remembered being confused and looking around, feeling inadequate. I remembered comparing myself to the person next to me and I thought, “I would never be able to reach my toes.” And as I listened to the class, I heard words and chanting that I’ve never heard before, then I thought, yoga is not for me.

Well, several days and months came by, I found myself going to the same yoga studio and find myself signing up for 500 Hours Yoga Teacher Training. Reflecting, I kept going because I wanted to challenge myself. I wanted to explore this deep sense of “connection” and find that “peace” that I felt every time I practice on my mat. I wanted to deepen my understanding of “finding my own Salvation”.

I never stopped practicing since then. I realized that if I am breathing, I will continue to seek, will continue to be challenged, and to be hate and or to be loved. Yoga thought me how to use different tools to live happily whatever, whenever life brings.

In 2016, I came across to this one studio called Surya Yoga and Wellness. I fell in love with the place and come to find out, an old friend happens to be the owner. I knew then that I wanted to be involved in this place. And as life continued to evolve, here I am finding myself being the new owner. I had the opportunity to make changes with the studio, but I thought, I fell in love with the Studio because of its mission and its values, I decided to keep going and continue to serve the people who also fell in love with the place.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road… with any business there has been struggles. At the beginning I had to work with the yoga teachers and know t each one of them. I have to introduce myself to the current members of the studio and to prove myself continuously. The yoga teachers are the essence of this business in order to meet the client’s needs. After knowing the teachers and their expertise, continued to monitor and modify the classes that fits to clients’ needs based on the surveys’ recommendations. Building the client base is challenging, more so in maintaining them and making sure they are completely satisfied. In addition, marketing with Social Media has been challenging, but fun. Working on visibility and consistency is always my priority.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Surya Yoga and Wellness – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Surya Yoga and Wellness started in 2014 with a mission to provide a welcoming, beginner-friendly, and compassionate yoga studio that foster and support community and the environment. This reflects Surya’s understanding and commitment to yoga as a practice supporting physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and community health and wellness.

Each class is infused with ancient yogic teachings, the perfect balance between active and passive postures, and a supportive, nonjudgmental community.

Surya Yoga and Wellness offer a wide range of services from regular yoga classes, meditation classes, exploratory workshops, and integrative therapy. Put together, these services create a whole-hearted blend of tools that can powerful transform our client’s life.

Surya Yoga and Wellness values the practice of yoga for the social, emotional, physical, intellectual and community health and well-being. We value and respect individuality and are committed to serving others and dedicated to harmonious working relationship and team work.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As part of a larger and holistic health and wellness business in Phoenix area, I aimed to reach and help more clientele to at least 50% increase in two years and to continue to spread the unique services our studio offers. I hope to continue helping and supporting various non- profit organizations through workshops and community fundraising and donation classes.

I know Ms. Werner from past work experience in medicine. She is a brave, strong person and quite dedicated. If anyone can merge work on all fronts of scientific, medical, and social disciplines, she will. A business grounded in helping people will be natural for her.
