Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua (Rashenal) Bolick.
Joshua, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started rapping when I was 15 years old and making music has always been a huge part of my life. I fell in love with it once I started recording my own music and have always had a natural ability with words/lyrics/ songwriting. Over the years I have performed at many live shows and worked with many artists/groups/ promoters. My friends and I started operating more like a record label and in 2011 I officially established Earsweat Records as an LLC. We have released many albums and videos over the years including my “Life Learner” album that was released at the end of 2014. That album was a major milestone and I was featured multiple times by Phoenix New Times and AZ Republic / AZ Central. I’m currently working on a new album as well as a new project with G-Owens for our group Eighty Two / 82. While writing this I am currently in Japan and was just in the studio with Volta Masters recording a new track as shown in the photo.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I also work full time as a Software Engineer / Senior Consultant so it can be difficult to make time to work on everything I want to. I’ve found setting myself a weekly schedule and sticking to it by any means necessary works best to get to a place of consistent productivity. I have struggled with this in the past but I’ve been making major progress with each weekly iteration.
Please tell us about your company.
Earsweat Records is a record label and media company based in Phoenix, AZ. We specialize in producing original music as well as other forms of media/art. We are known for high quality music and videos as well as being a long standing member of the ever blossoming Arizona Hip Hop community. We also create/sell artist and project merchandise as well as work with local and non-local promoters to book and perform high production value live shows and tours. Earsweat Records has come to represent our 5 Pillars of Purpose: Creativity, Positivity, Innovation, Unity, and a true Force for Good in this world. I’m most proud of all the albums we have released and all the great relationships with fans and friends we’ve made all around the world over the years.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I think to have a set weekly schedule with actionable work items, setting realistic goals, and consistently working towards them every day is the best way to achieve the desired outcome. Music / Art is my passion and love so one of Earsweat Records’ essential qualities is figuring out how to keep operating costs and expenses as low as possible so we can sustain for long periods. Also, extreme patience and persistence are an absolute must. This industry is very competitive and cutthroat so it has been very important for us to find our solutions to problems and ways we can sustain our business over a very long period of time which often is how long it takes to become successful. Rest In Peace to Nipsey Hussle but he was 100% right to call it a marathon and the marathon will forever continue with now and future generations to come.
