Meet Josh Fink of Nick’s Menswear in Chandler, Glendale, Tempe and Tucson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Fink.

Nick’s Menswear is family owned and operated by the Fink Family. The Finks moved to Arizona from North Dakota to join other family and get out of the cold!

The whole family participates in the purchasing of Nick’s inventory together, so they have a wide variety of styles to fit your life style = young or old – career or special occasion. Their sizes run from 34 short to 64 long, with fits ranging from euro slim to an executive.

The first store opened in 2009 at Arrowhead Towne Center and based on the success of that, they opened up the 2nd location in 2010 at Chandler Fashion Center. In 2012, they opened their 3rd store at Arizona Mills in Tempe and their most recent store in 2017 at Park Place in Tucson. The staff at Nick’s Menswear have over 100 years of combined retail experience, which they use to bring you the best in customer service and value in men’s suits and clothing. They focus on value and fashion, you will not find a better selection of suits anywhere. Nick’s Menswear sells thousands of suits a year and always has thousands of suits in stock to choose from, so you are sure to find the perfect fit and style at a great price.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Before we opened, people said, “you will never make it as a suit store in a mall.” If we were in fact, just a suit store in a mall, they would have been right!

When we first opened, we offered rental tuxedos and struggled with the fit. We not only couldn’t guarantee perfection but couldn’t even come close. As a result, it was harder for us to make an impact.

As time went on, fit became the most important aspect as men’s clothing got slimmer and trimmer. We changed our philosophy to, “why rent, when you can own?” Plus, we offer top-quality service and on-site tailoring at an affordable price. Last year as a company, we clothed nearly 1000 weddings and have really changed the game in AZ for weddings and prom.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Nick’s Menswear story. Tell us more about the business.
At Nick’s Menswear, we specialize in providing the best fit, price, and service in the industry. We sell versus rent and the reason we sell is fit. What has happened in our industry is that everything has become slimmer, trimmer and tighter and the rental companies just haven’t caught up.

Every day I talk to people telling me horror stories about going to a local rental place and having the jacket be boxy and the pants saggy, which is a huge risk you take when renting.

In our stores, we offer three different fits and no matter the build, we custom fit and custom tailor. Not only does the suit or tux look perfect in pictures, but it can also be used for multiple occasions and years to come. What sets Nick’s apart from the competition is that our price is the same as a rental and we also have a 4000 sq ft. warehouse in Tempe with more backstock that anyone in the industry.

We pride ourselves on being a family owned an operated company and really go above and beyond to make sure the customer is taken care of.

One of the other huge parts of our business is prom and every year we partner with nearly every high school in the valley to work with their student councils and donate money for every student that comes into Nick’s to get a suit or tux for prom.

Through the AASC (AZ Association of Student Councils), we offer the Nick’s Menswear Scholarship which is a $5000 scholarship given to local seniors for college. Over the past four years, we have donated over $100000 to local schools and are very proud of that and proud of being part of the community.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has a lot to do with business. We got lucky that people realized the value of buying versus renting. We also got lucky that we are in an industry that we believe you need to see, feel and try on the product because it is very difficult to purchase online.

Lastly, we got lucky that our niches (weddings and proms) happen every year.

As a former golf professional, one of my favorite quotes was from Gary Player who quoted Samuel Goldwyn “The harder I work, the luckier I get”. I truly believe that.
