Meet Joe Iturri of The Saguaro Hotel Scottsdale in Downtown Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Iturri.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Originally from a small town near Lake Tahoe, Nevada I grew up around the hotel and casino world. Somehow, I always knew that hospitality was in my blood and I started my career as a banquet server at the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas. I went on to study hotel management at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas then was fortunate enough to be accepted in to a management training program at The Sheraton Grande Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA.

After a 23 year career with Starwood Hotels having also worked at The Phoenician and W Scottsdale, has brought me to my current role as general manager at the Saguaro Scottsdale. The uniqueness and fun environment of The Saguaro is something I absolutely enjoy on a daily basis.

The Saguaro offers an incredible location to downtown Scottsdale but most importantly has a very family type of service where our team members create long lasting connections with our guests. The tourism industry continues to be a passion for me and really enjoy working with service minded people.

Has it been a smooth road?
Summer weather 🙂

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Saguaro Scottsdale is a chic, recently renovated hotel with a modern atmosphere that offers a comfortable home-away-from-home stay. Located just steps away from Arizona’s best shopping, dining, art museums, parks, and entertainment. The Saguaro is surrounded by lush tropical gardens with two outdoor pools ringed with private daybeds and cabanas, sun loungers and umbrellas and poolside DJ with live music. The Saguaro’s 194 rooms have been completely re-designed and updated with such unique elements as luxurious pillow-top mattresses and ergonomic desks; plus new 42-inch flat screen TVs. The modernized rooms also display new artwork, including prints from photographer Colleen Durkin. All rooms come with either a private balcony or patio overlooking a pool, garden, or city view. It also houses an American bistro, bar, coffee shop, gym, and luxury spa, plus several indoor and outdoor event spaces with wraparound patios, fireplaces, and fire pits. The Saguaro hotel features stylish guest rooms with bright, expansive spaces that reflect the shades of the native desert flowers and natural surroundings.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Saguaro is a perfect fit for Scottsdale due to the diverse experiences the city has to offer. The hotel sits in a pedestrian-friendly area of a town that usually requires a rental car. It anchors one end of Civic Center Mall Park, and is within walking distance of the shops, restaurants and galleries in the old town.

Scottsdale is known for sunshine, spa and fun so there are diversions abound in the courtyard of the hotel, including a 100-foot-long centerpiece pool ringed with bright yellow chaise lounges where you can laze about to a soundtrack of dance music. Those seeking a quiet spot can steal away to the smaller, circular “calma” pool, where the white noise from a concrete waterfall masks the sound of voices. A well-equipped gym overlooks the main pool, free bikes are available, and a small spa with three indoor treatment rooms. The Saguaro is considered an urban resort in the suburban desert with a summer pool-party scene, boutique spa makes a cheerful base for anyone who doesn’t want the isolation of the large local resorts. The vibe is friendly, indoors and out.

The Saguaro is also a colorful venue overlooking Scottsdale’s art-studded Civic Center Park, perfect for a wedding celebration. The bright walls of the Saguaro channel the indigenous wildflowers of Arizona. Which beautifully complements the hotel’s modern and vivid style. Picturesque moments can be found around every corner. The Saguaro features Old Town’s Largest Hotel Event Space, The Agave Complex, with 7,649 sq. of flexible indoor & outdoor event space to choose from, along with wraparound patios, fireplaces & a fire pit. World-class destination.

I would highly recommend Scottsdale to anyone starting out in this industry. Scottsdale’s warm and embracing attitude comes across in so many ways and the support Experience Scottsdale offers new businesses is without a doubt the best in the country.
