Meet Joann Pilcher of Unashamed by Grace in Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joann Pilcher.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Sexual addiction isn’t an easy topic. Although, statistics show it’s widespread and is now affecting our children and teens in this digital age, people are slower to come to terms with it which allows it to become an addiction that has now surpassed any other addiction in America. It’s easy to access, it’s free and there are no race, age or religious barriers that prevent anyone from obtaining it as it is with drugs or alcohol. You still have to go out and buy those things. Porn is available at anytime, anywhere, and lure of addiction is always present so the question becomes, how can someone possibly break free? That’s where our personal testimony comes in to show people that like with any addiction, it takes determination and some work, but it’s completely possible! My husband and I have a heart for those struggling with addiction. We have walked this road ourselves and don’t just bring a wall full of credentials and certifications to these hurting people. We have a redemption story and show them they can have an addiction-free life, great family relations and go on to help people themselves if they are willing to put the work into it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Sexual addiction is sometimes treated like the worst of the worst, yet daily there are stories on every news outlet of celebrities, actors and famous individuals seeking rehab for treatment. It’s something in almost every movie we see in theaters, on magazines at grocery store checkout lines and the largest search category on the entire worldwide internet but yet the oxymoron of it is, that sometimes people are still hesitant to talk about it. Because of all the famous celebrities coming out and talking about their struggles, I think has made it easier for the average person to admit they have a problem, when they see these people magnified in the media telling millions about their same struggle.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Unashamed by Grace – what should we know?
Bryan and Joann work with Married or Single Men and Women struggling with sexual addiction. Joann also specializes in a field not many are equipped to practice in, which is spouse care during their husband’s recovery. Spouses sometimes get left to the side during the men’s recovery process and don’t get the care they need at the same time.

We are Certified Mentors from Bravehearts University, and also Certified with the American Association of Christian Counselors. We have been trained by the top experts in the field that helped bring sexual addiction into the mainstream vocabulary many decades ago.

We’re pretty well heard of in Arizona, partnering with various psychotherapists, licensed counselors and churches who refer people our way. We’re available as guest speakers for counseling offices, care agencies, marriage classes and events. We also have a weekly radio show on Christian Living Radio that reaches the entire US. Our discussions range from addiction topics to hosting guest speakers such as The Pastor of Pump, (who Joann went to high school with) that focus on domestic abuse awareness, and IDTS, that trains in self-defense whose techniques are currently being used by governmental offices and who also has a focus on anti-sex trafficking. We make sure to partner with help organizations that complement our work and make Arizona a better place to live.

We have helped save countless marriages, and have walked with many singles and marrieds through to freedom in this area. Not only do we have a wall of certifications and endorsements, but the main thing that sets us apart from most everyone in this field is that we have both walked through the bondage of addiction, losing everything to walking in complete freedom and having a much better marriage than we ever thought possible. We give people hope!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our first certification was through Bravehearts University, a mentorship program out of Georgia. Their founder has been on The View, USA Today, ABC 20/20 and more. He offers a select few mentorship opportunities through his organization and we were one of the first to graduate. He is our mentor and has asked us to be key, guest speakers at the world Breaking Free Sexual Integrity Summit to be held at the end of 2017.
