Meet Jessica Suggs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Suggs.

Jessica, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2005, I jumped at the opportunity to work for a start-up company in the non-profit media space. I loved the idea of being in on the “ground floor” and helping to create a business from scratch. For the next 14 years, I worked my way to Director of Media Services, growing my department from one person (me, myself and I) to five amazing team members.

Over the years, I had the privilege of serving radio and television stations across the globe, as well as providing executive support and media strategy for more than a dozen non-profit organizations. Throughout my tenure, I managed and negotiated multi-million-dollar media budgets on behalf of our ministry partners. I also provided high-impact marketing strategies for developing and growing robust media platforms for these same organizations.

My role in leading and developing marketing campaigns for our agency and our clients swiftly became a passion of mine. The privilege of developing a robust marketing team that produced high-quality results-driven campaigns allowed me to use my creative, strategic and organizational skills to their fullest.

In early 2019, I had the opportunity to edit and provide a marketing strategy for the launch of Melissa Service’s novel, A War and A Wedding. This first book in a brand-new series was the #1 New Release in Teen and Young Adult Books on Amazon. Book two in the series will be released in the near future. Editing and promoting A War and A Wedding was the realization of a long-time dream of mine.

In December 2019, I decided to leave my 14-year career in media to branch out on my own. My passion to grow and develop a business went beyond the impact I believed I was having in the organization I had been a part of. It was challenging being a career-woman in a male-dominated industry. I wanted to be a catalyst for change, to make a greater impact, and to build a company that empowered women to use the skillsets they had been blessed with.

Has it been a smooth road?
Working for the same company, in a role I had become an expert in, was very hard to walk away from. Having been in the organization since it first launched, provided me with a distinct advantage and understanding of the industry and company history from across the years. However, it also made it especially challenging to break out of the role I had been functioning in for so long. I wanted to make an impact at a higher level in the organization, taking my team into uncharted territory, which was not always received as a positive.

In the end, I determined that my dreams would be better facilitated through working as my own boss. I had continued working full-time when my son was born eight years ago. But, when my daughter was born four years ago, my perspective shifted drastically on the value of working 9-5 in an office setting. I felt I had missed so much of my son’s early years, I was determined to not only reconnect with him but to not lose that time with my daughter.

I love the freedom I now have of setting my work hours and designing a business around my family. I have found an incredible support system through Rachel Hollis’s business coaching program. There are so many female entrepreneurs out there, women with audacious dreams, incredible giftings, and the passion and drive to make a difference in their sphere of influence and beyond.

It’s taken a year for me to refine what I want my business to provide, and how I want to provide those services and products. I’ve only just settled on a business name; and am in the process of finalizing my branding over the first quarter of 2020. I’m more excited than ever to move into this next chapter of business development!

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My goal is to help women implement practical marketing solutions that bring their dreams to life. I am a visionary strategist. My project management background gives me the tools to not only dream, but to plan, and then execute that dream into a reality.

My creative marketing strategy turns up the volume on customer engagement – providing the means for entrepreneurs to share their dream with the world while engaging with their constituents in a meaningful way. I am passionate about connecting with entrepreneurs one-on-one, talking through their business goals, the challenges they are facing, and collaborating on ways to use creative marketing solutions to help overcome those challenges.

As an entrepreneur, I’m most known for my expertise in creating MailChimp templates and designing focused, effective email campaigns. I strive to ensure my clients are working smarter, not harder, by implementing streamlined practices for creating meaningful, clear, content that connects them with their customer base in a relatable way.

I am currently in the process of creating digital templates, design elements and project management resources to help entrepreneurs take their business to the next level with ease and organization. I’m excited to be launching these new digital projects in the coming months.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
My husband and I recently moved our family to Chandler, Arizona from Southern California. We are really enjoying date nights trying new restaurants in Chandler and Gilbert. There are so many great options to choose from! Our kid’s favorite place to go is Top Golf in Gilbert. Seriously, our four year old asked to have her next birthday party there. It’s been a lot of fun exploring and we are looking forward to seeing more of Phoenix and the state as the year unfolds.
