Meet Jenae Hirsch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenae Hirsch.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always been interested in photography, but I became obsessed after I was lucky enough to attend a study abroad during the summer of 2017 in Paris that was all about photography. After I came home, I continued expanding my portfolio and I started showing my photos at Arizona State University’s Third Thursdays. Putting myself and my photos out there gave me the confidence I needed to start my business, which I did last March.

Recently, I have been trying to learn even more about photography by taking classes through Arizona State. I love learning about photographers in the past and how to develop film and create prints. My major is actually Theatre, so I like being able to give my brain a break with something else creative.

Please tell us about your art.
My photos mostly focus on nature and architecture. I do not restrict myself to photographing one subject or theme, because I don’t want to put my art into a box. I photograph anything and everything that piques my interest. I think that the one thing that ties all of my photos together is that they are as colorful as possible. I see the world in the brightest colors and that is what I hope to convey through my photography. I also love to take inspiration from other photographers. Some of my favorite artists currently are Thomas Mangelsen, Kiliii Yüyan, Kristy Velesko, and Robert Adams.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Be brave! You never know what people will think of your art until you put yourself out there. Also, don’t forget to challenge yourself. That’s when you’ll make art that you are truly proud of.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can find my work on my website, on my Instagram, at First Fridays in Phoenix, and at Second Fridays in Downtown Mesa! You can support my work by scheduling a photoshoot with me or purchasing one of my photos, either in person or online. Even a nice comment on my Instagram will brighten my day!
