Meet Jamie Flesher of Legacy Home Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Flesher.

Jamie is a Registered Nurse and a Certified Geriatric Care Manager with over 33 years of experience in the health care field. She obtained her Nursing Degree at Harper College and additional study and certification in elder care management from the University of Florida. Her work history has afforded her the opportunity to work directly with the elder population and individuals with disabilities. This has provided her an understanding of the enormous challenges faced by individuals during the aging process especially those experiencing age-related illnesses.

Jamie has been the CEO of Legacy Home Care, LLC since 2006 and has achieved the following designations: Care Manager Certified (CMC), Certified Managed Care Nurse (CMCN), and Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP). She is a member of the Aging Life Care Association and a member of the Arizona Non-Medical Home Care Association. She is committed in helping seniors and the chronically disabled remain independent in their homes for as long as possible by providing quality non-medical home care services and geriatric care management. She is a strong patient advocate for her clients to ensure that they are receiving the best care possible during hospitalizations and assist with the transition back to home or assisted living arrangement.

Her focus is always patient centered as she conducts assessments and develops a care plan to identify problems and provide solutions. She will arrange and monitor in-home medical and non-medical services. In addition, she will accompany clients to doctor’s appointments and communicate with family members and healthcare professionals. When needed, she provides family caregiver training and support to family members and educate her clients on chronic disease self-care management.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have grown slowly but steadily over the last 11 years in business. We are very selective in hiring only caregivers that has the Heart of Caregiving. The demand is great but the quality workers are few but we have grown through the years mainly through word of mouth referrals from our clients and colleagues in the senior care industry. The challenge has been and continues to be the shortage of caregivers as well as the many government regulations that has affected our industry. As the aging population continue to rise, we fear that there will be people needing care but not getting the care because of agencies like ours don’t have enough caregivers. Also, we are a Medicaid provider and due to the drop-in reimbursement rate, we are struggling with finding caregivers that are willing to get paid less than private pay rate to assist with this underserved population.

Legacy Home Care – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

A good referral for us would be:

  • Someone who need assistance with personal care, homemaking, and companionship services to remain in their homes.
  • Family Caregivers who need respite care.
  • Individuals who need placement into Assisted Living or Memory Care Facilities or a Group Home.
  • Individuals who need to have a Geriatric Care Manager to help oversee their care needs.
  • Patients who are being discharged from the hospital to home or assisted living who need transitional care.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is finding the balance between personal and business and giving your best in what you do everyday and knowing at the end of the day that you have made a difference in the lives that you’ve touched. Each life matters and we consider it an honor and a privilege to be able to help people age gracefully and with dignity in their HOME where their heart is.
