Today we’d like to introduce you to James Warren.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story began unconventionally like most things. I was getting everything ready for my sons 3rd birthday, and one of the things I really wanted was quality photos, so I bought my self a camera. The day of the birthday party I took so many photos and uploaded them to the Facebook Event page. I got so much good feedback on the photos and someone even asked me to shoot some pics for em’. I didn’t know what to do or how to respond. After some thought, the parents had convinced me that I’d be just fine, and that I had a great eye, and that’s all you needed.
I killed it! I crushed the shoot and they loved all the photos! I did the shoot free of charge but was tipped 500 bucks. That’s when it hit me, I can do this.
Soon after, my love for photography grew, and I started to have more confidence in what I could do with an image. Very soon after my name grew. I was getting shoot request from all over, mostly word of mouth.
My close friend “Leaf” saw this talent and drive in me and helped my photography business grow just as fast. Leaf knew a ton of people on the grind in different capacities. Whether it was basketball players in the NBA or recording artist in LA, Leaf was always willing to bring me along and showcase my talents to these people. He would always tell me “You’re a star already, the right people just need to see it.”
We’ve taken a 1, 2, punch approach to everything we do, and since then I’ve seen a steady rise in both business and hunger.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but I would have it no other way.
Everyone is well aware of your success and all the good news, no one ever sees the grind. There were times I’ve gone to venues without a media pass and have been told I can’t enter, and even times I’ve gotten into venues without a pass and then mid-show asked to leave haha! I’ve had countless adventures to LA from PHX with just gas money and nothing to eat, all just to have an opportunity to put myself out there.
The biggest obstacle is being away from family. They know I’m grinding and trying to succeed, but they will never really know how bad I want it. Understanding on both ends is definitely tough.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m an artist. I’m an activist.
I create. I take photos. I design.
I would like to think I’m known for pretty dope photos, but that also that I give back to the community.
