Meet Heather Rodriguez of Coldwell Banker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Rodriguez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m Arizona born and raised, grew up in a small mining town east of the valley. I attended ASU and graduated with a BS in Marketing. I spent the past 20 years climbing the corporate ladder and held various Sr. Level Sales Leadership positions some of the largest companies in the United States. However, deep down in my soul I always wanted to have my own business, where I could build a brand, culture, and commitment to treating people the way I felt they should be treated…. both clients and team members.

As I would travel around the country I would often spend time thinking about what I wanted to do when I grew up, and I realized no matter where the opportunity came up, I would always talk with people about how much I loved Arizona. Whenever I had an opportunity to relocate for work, I would always decline because I truly couldn’t imagine living anyplace else! That’s when it finally came to me, why don’t I build a real estate career where I can be a resource to people who are making one of the largest purchases of their lives.

A career in Real Estate provides me with the opportunity to create a life-changing experience for anyone buying or selling a home, Home is where everything begins, sometimes a move creates happy emotions, sometimes there are difficult emotions surrounding a move like a divorce or the death of a loved one.

Every situation is different, and it’s my responsibility and honor to be part of wherever my client’s Journey takes them.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Most definitely not, I believe the most difficult part was making the decision to believe in myself enough to make such a drastic shift in my career. It can be daunting to go from a very comfortable salary and compensation package to start from ground zero. I have two son’s both in high school, and college is just around the corner. I often tell people how humbling it’s been for me to go back to the basics of selling, which is my true passion.

Whether it’s putting up signs for open houses, working neighborhoods with flyers and newsletters to engage the community and build a brand or making calls to talk with people about Real Estate. It’s a combination of things I did right out of college to build my career. Oh, by the way in this role…. you don’t get paid until you sell something.

When you jump into this business you think everyone will call you because you’re in Real Estate, however, the reality is everyone has at least 5 friends or family members who are Realtors…. seriously! Why should they just call you? I learned quickly, that to stand out I need to focus on showcasing the value I bring vs. relying on a friendship which is how so many decisions are made.

One day you can have 5 solid opportunities at hand, and the very next day something can change and all of them can disappear! That has happened, life changes daily and so do opportunities that rely on life changes. This is when I learned how now more than ever building a DIVERSIFIED pipeline is key to success. I have been extremely fortunate, I had my first two closings just three months after I started in the business, and have been consistently growing my business every month.

I’ve heard many stories about people who don’t sell anything for 6 months or more in their first year. Others tell me their business is very inconsistent, which has not been the case for me. I feel I’ve been blessed and pleased that my business plan is working!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Coldwell Banker, Realtor – what should we know?
I am a full-service Realtor, meaning this is my full-time job and career. I specialize in working with buyers and sellers. In today’s market buying a home can be difficult due to the fact that we have limited inventory. Selling a home can seem easier because of limited inventory, but that’s not always the case. If you don’t have the right representation both buying and selling can turn into a miserable experience and become quite stressful.

Coming from a background in sales, negotiation, and marketing I pride myself on creating a comprehensive marketing strategy to help clients sell their home quickly and for the most money possible. I build a unique plan for each client that targets potential buyers that want to live in the area. My marketing plan includes a combination of professional photos, video, social media campaigns, extreme web exposure on over 900 home-buying sites, as well as some of the traditional selling techniques such as open houses, direct mail, and agent and broker tours etc.

In this market buying a home can be challenging, I’m thrilled when my clients offer is accepted. I often hear that friends of theirs have had to put in several offers before one is accepted. That can happen, but again I do my very best to go the extra mile and pro-actively communicate with the listing agents and work to understand the best way to position my clients offer so we win!

What sets me apart? I think it’s the personalized experience and my sincere approach to helping my clients get what they want, whether it’s purchasing a new home or selling their existing home or carefully transitioning from one property to another. Investors require a completely different approach, and I enjoy working with them to build their portfolios! I don’t believe in rushing clients to make a decision, this is their Journey, I’m just here to guide them through the process.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband and my two boys definitely deserve credit for encouraging me to take this leap and supporting me every step of the way! They believed in me when I was not able to see just how important it was for me to take this step in my life, personally and professionally. I appreciate their patience with listening to my constant talking about new ideas, experiences, etc. I hope my sons see this as an example for them to never give up on their dreams, they are never too old to make a change and try something new! You only have one opportunity in this life, why not try to make the most out of it?

I’ve had many mentors throughout my career and I do feel that each and every one of them has given me priceless gifts, sharing their knowledge and experience. Their insights on business, ethics, and how to be successful in balancing a career and family long-term have been instrumental in how I’ve built my career and made decisions throughout life.

There are many women in the Real Estate Industry who I admire, and they definitely played a big role in my decision-making process. I hope to model my business to be as successful as they have been!
