Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Clark.
Haley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At 18, I graduated cosmetology school and high school, with the intention of using my cosmetology license to pay my way through an undergraduate program. After working for a chain salon for four years while attending ASU I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Social and Behavioral Studies. Once I started my Masters of Social Work I decided it would be easiest to balance work and education if I was in charge of my own career, which is when I decided to venture out on my own and opened Brows By Haley in 2017.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most small business owners, 2020 and Covid-19 threw my business for a loop when I was required to close my business for 8 weeks. Learning how to take my business that was strictly hands-on service providing based to something that I could do safely and virtually was challenging. Also, being such a social and physical person, being away from my client’s for that long was hard. Three weeks into quarantine I was able to launch an online store. I offered retail goods for maintaining brows and lashes at home, and apparel. I wanted to also continue growing my clientele and online presence, so I also offered virtual consultations for clients to shape their own brows at home.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist in North Phoenix who specializes in all thing’s brows! I’m known for my fluffy and natural styling of brows and giving clients confidence to wear their natural brows. I’m most proud of the community I’ve built within my industry. I currently mentor many new entrepreneurs all around the country, I’ve hand trained multiple aestheticians around the country, and I’ve virtually trained over 100 students all in the last year! I’m super proud and honored to be able to share not only my brow techniques but also my business modeling and strategies with others who are looking to grow their business. I think what sets myself apart from others is my passion to help. When I take on a new mentee/student I do not hold back any of my secrets and I fully commit to building their skills and business with them. I pride myself on being a community leader in my industry and my passion for helping others become as successful as I have.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Over quarantine I was able to connect with celebrity brow artist Kelley Baker. Kelley has helped me over the last year with structuring my business in a way that creates more life balance for myself, has increased my revenue, and she’s helped connect me with many new clients, leading brands in our industry, and other brow artists. I also can give credit to my clients, who have helped me grow, watched my business change over the years, and have always encouraged me to take the next steps in advancing my platform. I feel incredibly grateful to have clients that have followed me for over seven years and so many of my clients have become good friends.
