Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Pickett.
Hi Gina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am celebrating 17 plus years in the beauty industry. I always knew I wanted to help people but didn’t realize my calling was to be a hairstylist. It’s actually a very interesting story about how I got started. I was originally preparing myself to be in the medical field and decided I wanted a way to make some extra money while I was in college; Therefore I enrolled into a trade school to become a cosmetologist. I had a natural talent as a kid with hair and figured what’s the worse that could happen.
Like most college students do, I changed my career path and I decided that what I was going for in the medical field was not for me. Fast forward to today, in addition to being a hairstylist I am also a hair color educator for nationally recognized brand, Matrix Loreal.
I specialize in low maintenance dimensional hair color as well as hair extensions and love not only helping women achieve their dream hair; But also to help other fellow industry hairstylists’ build their businesses behind the chair and level up in their business to increase their profits.
Now that’s what you call killing two birds with one stone; Being able to help others (my calling) and doing what I love.
I am truly grateful for the ongoing support from my family with my grandmother Margaret Pickett being my biggest support system as well as fan from my initials days as a cosmetologist up to where I have currently blossomed in my business behind the chair.
I am the founder as well as stylist of G Hair Lounge which is a Multicultural Salon where diversity and inclusion is prioritized. I am so excited to see where G Hair Lounge is going and all the things to come.

G Hair Lounge
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being as transparent as I am as well as relatable I must say that the road was definitely not as smooth as I thought it would be. In this industry, you have to be prepared to put in work, be dedicated. and be consistent. (That’s the secret sauce) From experience, the most difficult thing is building a clientele, so word from the wise know that things will not be handed to you; As a hairstylist you have to be a go getter and really market yourself. Think about it this way, if you don’t market yourself, how will people find out about you? Shout it from the rooftops!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
G Hair Lounge is a Multicultural Salon located in the heart of Tempe, Arizona that specializes in Low Maintenance Dimensional hair color as well as Extensions. We prioritize inclusion as well as diversity. We pride ourselves on helping women from all walks of life to achieve their dream hair, and discover their inner “Diva” since 2015; Although we specialize in hair color and extensions we do offer a few other selection of services.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
This is so random, but one my favorite childhood memories is when my grandfather who recently passed away would gather all the kids around and throw a few hundred dollars worth of quarters in the air and let us have at it. That so just so fun to me as a kid, I thought I had a lot of money because my pockets were heavy.
