Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Griffin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Gary. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started out as an Product Engineer at Texas Instruments in 1984. The work included software and hardware development. I found that I was really good at hardware and product interfacing.
I move to San Jose in 1991 and took a job as an Applications Engineering Manager for a small Probe Card company, where I further developed my hardware expertise and reputation in the industry.
Later, I moved to Schlumberger Technology and headed the new Interface Solutions Group for their Automated Test Equipment division.
I later moved to a smaller company located in Phoenix Arizona. A smaller company meant that I had more control over the process which I liked and was able to make the teams more customer focused instead of job focused.
During most of the time that I worked for other companies, I knew that I really wanted to own my own technology based company. BTI came up for sale in 2005, my partner and I bought the company and have since grown the revenue from 6 to 7 digits.
At BTI, I can service the customer better and faster than I was able to while working for larger companies. We pride ourselves on the fact that we have dedicated, exceptionally talented, folks that work for BTI and this enables us to react quicker and provide the service that the customer needs.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not everything has been smooth. There were a few bumps in the road. Some of the issues were that BTI needed to become ISO and AS9100 certified to service some of the defense contractors, which we did and as a direct result we have been able to gain entrance to customers that otherwise would not have looked at BTI at all.
The market/recession. etc. can be difficult to manage financially and we have had to downsize because of it in the past.
However, I am happy to report that we are doing OK.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
BTI is an Engineering Services Company. We help customer develop products; and then we produce them. We are what is referred to as a full turnkey operation.
We specialize in quick turn assembly of prototypes and we have the means to do production runs on our state of the art equipment.
BTI is not going to just provide a service, we are also partners in that we try and assist the customer in heading off potential issues by offering solutions instead of just pointing out problems.
The small size of our company enables us to react very quickly to customer requirements, as they tend to change from time to time.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Phoenix Metroplex area is very heavy in technology. The surrounding areas are very happy to have technology-based companies in their cities.
I would say that this area is perfect for a company like mine.
