Today we’d like to introduce you to Felisa Israel.
Felisa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career at the Phoenix Suns. I initially wanted to be in the entertainment industry but when I saw that entertainment was a huge part of professional sports I got excited about this new canvas, I looked at the basketball court as a stage for performances!
As I started taking more initiative and my career took off, I wound up in New York working for NBA ENTERTAINMENT producing and directing large-scale live events like the All-Star games, International Exhibition Games, etc.
This all led me to own my own Live Event Production company, 10 Fold Entertainment where I hire & train the next generation of students who are passionate about wanting careers in sports & entertainment.
I fell in love with that process of training the next generation and that inspired me to create a Professional Development program for students to be trained the way that I was in succeed in the sports and entertainment industries, IMPACT Learning Institute!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing great comes easy so this has not been a smooth road!
Some of the things I’ve learned along the way are how to conduct myself as a professional when being tempted to cross inappropriate boundaries, showing respect for yourself in moments where it’s easy to sell-out, and being a female in a male-dominated industry has its own set of challenges but I am proud of the choices I have made along the way and how it helped me to earn respect, credibility and some amazing relationships!
Probably the most challenging aspect for me has been going from being an employee in a world-class global brand to being an entrepreneur, not easy!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I consider myself to be a creative risk-taker, I don’t like being trendy or part of the norm. I like pushing boundaries and I love the response and reaction of the crowd! One of my favorite terms is ‘controlled chaos’, I get a rush from it!
I literally fell in love with mentoring and training the next generation. The students who really care about investing in themselves and their futures respond to me in such a beautiful way and they all have my heart. I sincerely want to see them WIN!
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Some of the most important lessons I’ve learned during Covid are how to be patient, adjust accordingly and be in a constant state of gratitude not just with yourself, but with everyone who loves you, supports you, champions you and truly cares about helping you grow!
