Eytan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I used to own kiosks in a mall and would constantly receiving incoming shipments from my supplier. Every so often there were late deliveries and I figured it couldn’t hurt to call up FedEx and try to get my money back. Well, it worked the first time, second, third, and so on…I was so surprised at both how much money I was saving on shipping and how many late deliveries there were and thought – why not make a business out of this?
I learned the tricks of the trade through experience and soon Betachon Freight Auditing was born. I started networking with all my contacts and pretty much any company that was shipping in large volume with FedEx or UPS so I can share with them my little secret. Some clients such as Dillon Precision even switched their Freight Auditor to me after proving to them in only one month how much more I saved them. We saved that client over $50,000 alone in the first year which is about 8% of their total small parcel cost!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with every business venture, yes there have been some bumps along the way. In the beginning it was difficult gaining the trust of the companies we were targeting and took a long time for us to build that credibility. For us to begin auditing an account and saving a company money on their shipping costs, all we really need is the access to their invoices and we’re all set. Some companies were reluctant in giving that out so we had to audit the bills manually for a while until we established ourselves as a trusted partner in freight auditing and someone who they can rely and trust 100%.
Please tell us about Betachon Freight Auditing.
We specialize in saving companies on their shipping costs, primarily with Fedex/UPS. We audit the bills both automatically with our custom built software and manually with our experienced audit team. We monitor every single shipment for refunds and claim them on the client’s behalf. We take over 40 factors of audit into consideration while doing the audit, such as late deliveries, duplicate charges, address correction fees, residential fees, etc. We send the client and invoice once a month that shows all the credits posted to the account. If we don’t save a company money, then they don’t pay us anything. We only get paid as a percentage of the savings with zero upfront costs, service fees, etc.
I believe that using a manual audit method and fine attention to details sets us apart from our competitors. We don’t only rely on the automatic methods to recover the savings but go through every shipment manually to maximize the savings, whether it’s for a client that ships 1k a month or 80k. We get credits that most freight auditors probably overlook, such as weather delays, customs delays, etc.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I would say my favorite memory is going to the beach at Rocky Point, Mexico and camping there for a week with my family and friends. We would all sleep under this huge tent, bbq all day, throw mud at each other, and lighting up fireworks on the beach. It was great! It was 1992 and I remember watching the finals of the Suns and Chicago Bulls and even thought I was sad (because Suns lost) I was thrilled being on the beach and playing with my friends and siblings and having a blast.
