Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Estrella Sandoval-Becker and Dr. Trisha Lehto.
Both physicians attended Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine located in Tempe, AZ and met one another there in 2013. Each doctor wanted to have their own practice and so it seemed serendipitous to start a practice together, locally. We graduated together in 2015 and started our entrepreneurship that year to open our own private practice. Our clinic opened its doors on August 9, 2016 and has been steadily increasing its community health efforts. Arizona is a great state that supports private small business and first time business owners. We are proud to own a private medical practice in Tempe and encourage others to pursue their dreams and open that business you’ve always wanted.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Yes and no, the idea of starting a business can be scary but the rewards are worth the struggles. After graduating from medical school there most people find they have a high debt to income ratio and there are not a lot of options for those individuals to acquire another loan. At that time a small business loan was out of the question for both of us, so we had saved approximately $5,000.00 each and started our shoe string business with good intentions, tenacity and a belief that we were starting something new and incredible. Neither one of us had started our own business before so there is much to learn before getting started and there is even more to learn once you’ve gotten started.
In the initial stages of opening up a practice, there is not a high amount of income rolling in immediately so being patient with establishment is key. Most profitable businesses can take up to three years to see a healthy income and be out of the red (debt). However, being your own boss is something we wish everybody could experience and that’s why it’s important to have that passion drive your courage to keep learning about the business and keep moving forward with your endeavors.
Everybody’s Primary Care – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are medically trained to carry out general medicine practices in addition to having the ability to offer other modalities and therapies, giving us more tools in our tool belt. The credence to which we concentrate on is whole patient wellness; with an emphasis on prevention and self-care. Another great aspect to the care that NMD’s offer is providing you with more options to help you handle your care, in the manner you want. Let’s continue to be proactive and together so we can continue to make a difference.
As NMD’s (Naturopathic Medical Doctors) we want to spend one-on-one time with you, get to know your medical history, listen to your concerns, encourage your healing and let you be part of the decision making. We get to spend quality time with you in comparison to some primary care physicians who are limited in visit times. In some medical facilities you spend more time with the staff than you do with the actual doctor. With Everybody’s Primary Care, LLC we want to focus on your concerns without time constraints and concentrate on your whole-body wellness.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to us means our community is healthier, our towns are supporting each other and we are all working together to keep everybody healthy and happy. We joke that there is no money in wellness… because if everybody was well then, they wouldn’t need primary care doctors. Our goals are to not only help heal people but to keep them well. We stress prevention and self-care because we care, about our patients, our cities and our people of the greater Phoenix area. Word of mouth is the ultimate compliment of success, for one it helps build our business but two it shows we are making a difference. All it takes is one personal experience to help share the knowledge of what healthy can look like from a Naturopathic frame of mind, personally success means our patients are staying healthy and sharing their success stories with their friends, family members, coworkers and neighborhood.
