Meet David and Ginnie Rowe of DGR Communications in Gilbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to David and Ginnie Rowe.

David and Ginnie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We moved from England to Phoenix in October 2006 to start a new life; we wanted more flexibility in our lifestyle and to be able to spend more time together. We wanted to be our own boss. In England, we’d both worked for big advertising and digital marketing agencies; we provided brand marketing and communication services for big brands like Guinness, Honda, Hyundai, as well as other smaller, local businesses.

In December 2006, we decided to start DGR Communications to offer small businesses and nonprofit organizations our big brand experience, but without the big agency price tag.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a small business, especially in the early days, it’s sometimes a little nerve-racking as you never know where the next project is coming from. We were ‘all in’ – just the two of us, so there was no stable salary coming from another job. But, whether by luck or through building our reputation, we found that new business always came through when we needed it. We have never had to advertise our services and we have built our business on great relationships and referrals.

Our clients often recommend us to others, and many continue to work with us on a regular basis. We have some clients that have worked with us for 8 or 9 years…we may be on the third development of their website! We are also a part of a great BNI networking chapter – East Valley Synergy – which helps keep our business name out there. It helps to have a great group of professionals in your corner, advocating our business to their contacts.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We help small businesses and non-profit organizations improve their online communications with a variety of services that include website design, content writing & copywriting, and email marketing. Using our extensive brand marketing experience, we can also help business owners transform their business into Brands. We also have a professional translator in the family, so we also offer clients a translation service.

Our experience working in globally renowned marketing agencies like McCann Erickson and the Carlson Marketing Group has given us the specialist skills to help small businesses and non-profit organizations. We bring our big league experience and make it available to small businesses that can’t afford big league agency pricing.
We are very proud to have met our goals. After 11 years we are still our own bosses, we have the flexibility we craved, we work with great people, and we still run a thriving business. Having started the business just a short time before the 2007-2008 depression, we survived, thrived and are still going strong.

What sets us apart in our industry is our customer service; we treat our clients how we like to be treated, they are part of the team. We’re straight talkers; we don’t over promise and under deliver which can be a problem in this industry.

What were you like growing up?
Ginnie was born in Virginia, but grew up in Argentina. She spent a lot of time outdoors, especially after her family moved south to the beautiful region of Patagonia when she was 12. She loved exploring the forests, lakes and mountains around their rural home – which explains why she enjoys visits to the rim country of Arizona today, the landscape is very similar up north.

David grew up in Bristol, England. Always into sports, David played rugby and soccer throughout his childhood and youth. His passion for sports continues, although now more watching than participating thanks to knee and back issues – rugby is a brutal game! Fortunate to travel the world with his family as a child, David developed a taste for travel that continues to this day. After graduating university in the UK, David spent several months traveling the U.S.A living in his car with a college roommate – a great way to visit 40+ US states.

Together our passion for travel and exploring continues, taking every opportunity we can to get away and see this great country – another reason why we love the flexibility of working for ourselves!
