Today we’d like to introduce you to David Dion.
David, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Most of the male influences in my young life were tradesmen that enjoyed sharing their knowledge with me. Usually when seeing the passion I had for learning they welcomed me into the workshop, under sinks, in the walls and even the attic. As a teenager, I picked up several odd jobs and was fortunate to be an apprentice for some very knowledgeable tradesman. Throughout the years, I increased my knowledge in all aspects of a home. When it was time to figure out what to do for a living, I decided to follow another passion of mine which was Culinary Arts. I went to school to learn Culinary Arts and by the age of 19 I was a Sous Chef and by 21 a Chef for a small Mediterranean Restaurant.
When I met the woman that would eventually become my wife and mother to our two children (currently 7 & 10 years old), we hardly saw each other as my career required me to work when everyone else wasn’t. I decided to change careers to the service distribution and textile rental industry, which was a steady Monday through Friday style job. However, I quickly realized that it wasn’t my nature just to work a job. I learned everything I could in my position and quickly moved up through the industry due to my need to constantly be learning and bettering myself and company. In my pursuit to increase my position and pay, I had lost sight of my family, the whole reason I left my first career. I was working so much I pretty much missed my son’s first two years of life.
When it was time again to reevaluate my career, I knew I needed something I was passionate about and something I could always be learning, teaching and challenged in. Most importantly, I wanted a career where I could have more quality time with my family. I have always been in the service industry and in positions that required training others. So it made perfect sense to round out my knowledge and become a Home Inspector. I looked into working for another company or even buying into a franchise. After researching several opportunities, I decided to launch my own company so that I could control my hours and ethics of the company. Since launching Whole Home Inspections in 2015 it has become a Top Rated Phoenix Home Inspection Company and continues to grow.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Breaking into a new industry with a new company is not an easy task. It took around 14 months to get established enough that I no longer had to work side jobs, and work LATE nights and weekends to get us by. Although the road was long and hard, I never had a doubt that I was on the right path not only for me but my family. I had a lot of support from my wife and several awesome individuals I met while networking. In that first 14 months, when I was not working I was Networking.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Whole Home Inspections – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
