Today we’d like to introduce you to Danna Kynaston.
Danna , can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Michigan, moved across the world to Lebanon for a few years, and currently reside in Chandler, Arizona. Growing up in a super conservative family where I was taught to tiptoe around life and stay safe, life’s purpose for me could be best described as “unanswered”.
My biggest struggles growing up were being bullied, a negative body image, and a non-existent concept of self worth. Being the timid girl who didn’t believe in myself, I allowed everyone else around me to dictate who I was as a person. Friends, family, coworkers, and everything else in between had more say over my life than I did. It got to a certain point where enough was enough. Sick and tired of wanting a change, but not fully making a change. I realized I did not have the tools to make the long-lasting positive shifts I wished for.
I am a certified personal trainer from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), certified behavior change coach from the American Council on Exercise (ACE), have coached over 2,500 group fitness classes in Phoenix, and own and operate my online coaching business GENERATION A COACHING LLC. Most importantly, I am a wife and mama bear who is passionate about helping others live truly fulfilled lives, starting from within!
We get to a point where we are sick of being ashamed of the person we have become. We start to ask ourselves, “Is this really all that’s out there for me? Why do these patterns keep repeating themselves even though I’m trying hard? There’s got to be more to my life than this!”
These days, I use my innate desire to help others transform their lives from the inside out, helping to create long-lasting positive change in my clients’ lives. I use tools from cognitive behavior therapy and behavior change coaching, mindfulness practices, along with personal experience to help my clients become more self aware in their day to day lives. The changes we seek to make lie greatly in the small habits we have created over time. The best part about the human mind to me, is that the same way we can learn an unhealthy behavior or habit, we can unlearn it to create space for a more genuinely fulfilled life!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It most certainly has been a bumpy road for as long as I can remember. As early as elementary school, I remember feeling emotions of inadequacy. Are we taught this lame belief at a young age? Or are we wired to be self conscious at our core? The biggest struggle for me growing up was living in America as a first generation child being raised by conservative Muslim parents. The things I saw other kids doing, I also wanted to be a part of. There were lots that I was told not to do, and you know when you tell a child what NOT to do, they always wonder more. My wonder got me into hanging out with older kids, smoking cigarettes and drinking throughout high school, constantly finding myself in situations that built up shame and regret.
Another huge struggle (that I am always practicing) is speaking my mind and heart, no matter who it is in front of or what the potential outcome will be. Speaking truth, even if my voice is shaking, is something that can set us free from the prison that can become our mind. I was always pushed around for being too nice, being the ‘yes’ girl all the time. My mistake was giving my energy to the people and things that didn’t serve my highest self. Now, if something doesn’t feel right in my gut, I say or do what needs to be done in order to maintain my inner peace.
Please tell us about your business.
Generation A Coaching was born in December of 2019, after over a year of dreaming, planning, asking lots of questions, and hiring a business coach! Our tagline is Awaken. Act. Ascend. First, we awaken to the idea that something needs to change in our lives. Then, we act, physically and mentally taking the necessary steps. Finally, we ascend higher, to a better version of ourselves, and repeat!!!
The idea came from a burning desire to help others overcome the negative habits they’ve created over time, so that they can live happier lives and learn how to manage stress better. Reflecting on the struggle I have gone through in my 26 years of being alive, I know I wasn’t the only one who could use this habit reboot.
My 90 day program consists coaching clients through email and over the phone about anything from learning healthier eating habits, managing time better, to helping others connect deeper to the core root of who they are and what they want out of life. I offer support and coaching not only in one specific area, but any area of life that has to do with negative or unhealthy behavior.
I am most proud of myself for going for something big, like starting my own business, in hopes to give back to others who struggled as I did. I woke up one day and realized that all of this is not about me. It’s not about how many likes on Facebook or Instagram I get. It’s not about the attention. It’s about ALL the people I can serve, the messages I can share that change someone’s entire life, the love I can help cultivate. That is what I believe I’m known for.
What sets Generation A apart from other coaching services is the unique approach to coaching/consulting. We help the everyday woman who feels like she’s lost control of her life, productivity, and results and teach her how to build lasting, positive behavior changes by implementing and encouraging a strong mind, body, soul relationship. It all starts within, and to change our outside, we must do the inner work first. My strength is the integrated approach. Mind, body, spirit. Not just mind.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Vulnerability, confidence, and a loving kick in the ass with the truth from time to time. 😉
