Meet Courtney Lively

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Lively.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Welp, this is a loaded question! But if it has to be brief I will say that my career as an artist and my life in general has always been fueled by the simple concept of following my heart and keeping my mind open to what the universe gifts to me – whether the gifts are talents or experiences, I welcome them and never take them for granted. I say yes, and then I do. No one ever did anything awesome sitting on the couch and saying maybe tomorrow. I learned at a young age that life is precious and short – and it seems I’ve been reminded of that fact time and time again. Ironically enough, it is pain that has brought me passion, joy, happiness and determination. I’ve found that if I allow myself to be open to all the possibilities this life can offer me – I can live one spectacular life, and that is exactly what I am doing. From a young age I have always strived for greatness… in competitive sports (like ice hockey, which I still play, snowboarding, and Divison 1 soccer for Arizona State University), in friendship, in love, in fun. I want to be the best at everything I do and I want to do it all. Today, I continue to strive for greatness, as a business owner, as a creative, as a wife, a mother, an athlete, and most importantly as a grateful human… It can be exhausting doing it all and doing it all well, but holy moly it’s gratifying! So watch out world cause I’m coming for ya because I can rest when I die! 😉

Please tell us about your art.
My art is simple – My art is life. My art is based almost wholly on a feeling. I believe that beauty is everywhere as long as you look for it, as long as you can see it. I see it, I feel it and then I capture it. I have a deep appreciation for any given moment. And I have the power to freeze that moment in time, and save it for eternity. How cool is that? I believe I have a gift in creating an atmosphere that allows for beautiful moments to flourish. My clients, they feel it when they are with me. It’s comfort, its fun, it’s open, it’s love, it’s genuine. My hope is that when people see my images they feel something – and I know that if I did, if I felt something, if I ALLOWED myself to feel something, and I compose the image, there is a good chance that someone else will feel it too. I don’t strive for perfection in my images, I strive for the story, for the feeling. Ok, that was lie. I work my butt of everyday to perfect my art technically. However, some of my favorite moments have come from imperfections and I never want to forget that. Life and art, they are fluid. I believe we tell the best stories and create the coolest experiences when we allow ourselves to ride the waves.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think excuses are B.S. – If there is a will, there is a way.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I love to share my work with the world! My website is a beautiful start with many examples of all of my different kinds of work, from weddings to families, babies, interior design, and good old fashion corporate stuff. My most updated work can be found on my business Instagram page @courtneylivelyphotography. But if you’d prefer a more intimate look into the chaos that is my life as an artist, business owner, wife, mother and non-stop seeker of fun then feel free to follow me on my personal page @cookielively. You’ll see quickly I’m an open book with no shame in my game.
