Meet Corinne Braunwarth of Oh La Lari in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corinne Braunwarth.

Corinne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m sitting nursing my son. He’s sweet, calm, and adorable. However, I wasn’t any of those things. I was tired, not myself, not confident, and definitely not sexy. I had just been suffering from postpartum depression, was pregnant with my second child, and the unthinkable had just happened. A few weeks beforehand, I had lost my mom to breast cancer. The one who always cared for everyone else was now gone.

Like many things in life, this idea came to me at an odd time. To overcome my depression so I could be there for my family, I poured my energy into a new project: Oh La Lari, lacy nursing lingerie. Walking through parenthood without my mom has been so difficult, but having this project gave me an avenue to channel my mother and help other new moms. It has transformed into something fun, purposeful, and rewarding.

In the beginning, I leaned on my background in fashion and sewing to design the sexy, yet functional, nursing bralette. With the help of my nursing mom’s friends, I was able to figure out the perfect fit and since I was nursing I knew what I was craving in a bra. When I first put on the sample, my husband said, “Wow!” Not only did I instantly feel sexy and a little bit more like myself pre-kids, but it helped us reconnect again.

From that day to where I am now, I sell not only beautiful, functional nursing bras, camis, and organic reusable nursing pads to women internationally, I provide them with confidence and self-assurance.

Has it been a smooth road?
Is anything ever worth doing a smooth road? This certainly hasn’t been, but it has all been worth it. The biggest business struggle was like a slap in the face. One day I went to reorder more products and the email to my manufacture bounced. Yep, the email didn’t even go through. After a week of trying to connect with them, I realized I was out of luck big time! I had to find a replacement, get them up-to-speed, and wait for more products to arrive. My business was forced into an unplanned, unexpected six month hiatus. In the end, it worked out and I can chalk it up to business experience.

On the other hand, my biggest personal struggle was finding balance. How could I fit in being a new mom, a wife, and a business owner while still maintaining my other roles and responsibilities? The answer is, there is no one way to do it! I found my way through and leaned on my support system and now have found my rhythm.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The short version is, Oh La Lari is a maternity and nursing online retail store. But the bigger picture is, we are in the business of supporting new moms.

Our best selling product is the sexy nursing bralette. It’s fast and easy to breastfeed, has easy on/off clips, and probably its best asset is the adjustable racerback. Plus it’s stunning with delicate lace detail on the front and back. To ensure maximum comfort, it is non-wired, has an adjustable elastic waistband with removable pads to help with leaks.

The buttery soft nursing camisole has a one-of-a-kind lace feature, and we also sell the organic bamboo hypoallergenic reusable nursing pads. They are super absorbent, machine washable, and have a contoured fit to discretely slip inside your bra for added leak protection.

The most rewarding moments are when I hear from customers who share how our products brought a little bit of themselves back. I’m most proud of empowering women because I truly believe the world is better when we lift one another and support each other living the best versions of ourselves.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The community I found in Scottsdale since I moved here to start my family, has been so supportive and it has proven to be a great place to raise children.

For someone just starting, I would absolutely recommend them coming here to start their business. The Phoenix and Scottsdale areas applaud and encourage the entrepreneurial spirit.
