Meet Cinde Darnell of Arizona Mini Bike and Go Kart

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cinde Darnell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
About a year ago, we were looking for some mini bikes for us to have some fun with our kids and grandkids. At first, we were just looking for some used bikes.

However, as we looked at a few of them we realized most of them are in pretty rough shape. They were great for someone who wants to spend a lot of time working on them, which is ok if you like that kind of thing. We were really hoping to spend a lot more time riding than doing maintenance. So, we changed our focus to some new bikes instead. What we found very quickly was that there are very few options when looking for new ‘kid-friendly’ mini bikes in Phoenix.

We finally found a couple of new bikes at a closeout store on the west side, and quickly bought them. We had an absolute BLAST with them, both the adults and the kids. No matter where we went with them, they attracted a lot of attention and they were universally loved. Because they are so easy to ride and very durable, we let anyone who asked take a turn riding them and they were always quite pleased with the experience. And, everyone wanted to know where they could get one.

Since there were no stores in Phoenix where someone could buy one, we decided to fill that gap. Since the Monster Moto brand was the ones we were so pleased with, we contacted them to see if we could get the rights to sell their products here in Arizona. One thing led to another and early spring 2017 we began the process of opening the business. At first, we went to events and shows and sold from under a pop-up tent but in August we finally opened our store front on Bell Road in north Phoenix.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been an easy road to get our store open. We had to find a store front at a price we could afford and in a location, that was easily found. Luckily, we think we found that place.

Insurance was a real obstacle. Our business did not fit any of the standard business models that insurance companies usually wrote policies for. But with a lot of persistence and finally finding an amazing agent, we overcame that obstacle.

Arizona Mini Bike and Go Kart – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are an authorized Monster Moto mini bike and go kart dealer. Our business is sales and service. Service, not only of Monster Moto products, but any type of mini bike or go kart.

We are focusing on customer service and customer relations. This is a business about getting families outside and having fun, and we want to make sure that happens for our customers. We also want to engage young people in learning to take care of their bikes or karts and are always here to answer maintenance questions or show them how to do simple fixes to their rides.

I think we are known for our quick responsiveness and the will to do whatever it takes to get our customers back up and riding. I think our friendliness, humor and dashing good looks set us apart from others. Ok, scratch the good looks part. We offer what no one in town does; an opportunity to see, touch, and smell a brand new mini bike or go kart. And if you ask really nicely, you may get a chance to test drive one too.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think success is work in progress. You work to obtain that one small goal then move on to the next, building on each small goal. Our business started with a small idea, we built on that idea and opened our store. Our next goal was to get people in our store, it happened. Now we continue to build on that with customer relations, a good product and service. New ideas/goals come to us and we build on those. When we get these new ideas/goals for our business and we work on those, I feel we are being successful.

Of course, the goal of any business is to make money. We will work to do that so we can keep our store open and continue giving our customers and their families the opportunity to get out and have a great time together.
