Meet Chris Krakowski of VR Junkies in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Krakowski.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Chris. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I happened to read a random article online about this virtual reality arcade back in April. It happened to be our son’s birthday and we thought it would be a real treat to take him to something like this – none of us had ever visited a VR arcade before. We had an AWESOME time! The experience was like no other! So……after talking about it for a couple of weeks we decided to pursue buying in to the franchise and opening a VR Junkies arcade of our own.

It just so happened, that at that same time, the current ownership of the arcade was looking to exit the business. The Tempe VR Junkies is the only VR Junkies store currently in Arizona and the franchise was very much interested in keeping it up and running. Knowing that we were interested, the franchise reached out to us and helped craft a “transition” of ownership.

After that, we started putting all our energy into in and the store continues to attract new customers and our games continue to bring them back for more.

Has it been a smooth road?
Like any small business we’ve had our share of struggles. Financing – the equipment is expensive, the location is expensive.

We have a small space and with an increase in the amount of visitors to the arcade we have seen a drastic increase in equipment breaking/getting broken.

Advertising – you never seem to be able to do enough of it.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with VR Junkies – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a virtual reality arcade with 50+ games. We have single player games, multi-player games, co-op, PVP…..pretty much anything you can think of. We have shooter games, we have adventure games, we have horror games, we have exploration experiences, we have games for folks from 8-80. We have……I think you get the idea.
We also have a lower level (a.k.a the Holodeck) that contains 5 of our VR goggles that you can rent out. So, you can have your own, private VR party. We do birthday parties, corporate events, or just a place for a bunch of friends to get together and have fun – downtown Tempe has so many bars and restaurants that making a day of it is easy.
Finally, during school breaks, we feature STEM camps for kids.

You can make reservations right on our website when you are ready to come and play.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love the sense of community and its proximity to a variety of geographies and environments – a few hours to the ocean, a few hours to snow in the winter, a few hours just to get a little cooler.

We least like the traffic……but I guess it goes hand-in-hand with all major metro areas.

  • $1 per minute per headset of play all the way up to 29 minutes.
  • 30 minutes is $25
  • 60 minutes is $45
