Meet Chelsea and Angella Hamilton of Simple Jane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea and Angella Hamilton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started Simple Jane when we were looking for a resource that would provide the benefits of high-quality cannabis… without the stigma. As a mother-daughter team, we wanted to create products that we felt good about not only using for ourselves but recommending to other women and loved ones. Over the last couple of years, there has been a surge in CBD products… but we found that not all CBD is created equal. We wanted products that were the highest quality and, most importantly, effective.

Simple Jane started off with a line of Topical Aphrodisiacs in 2015. We have a passion for women’s sensual health, normalizing that conversation, and creating the tools for women to experience their sensuality in a healthy and rejuvenating way. Since then, we’ve continued to evolve the brand beyond sensuality and into our Spa and Wellness products to aid in athletic recovery and overall health and wellness. We’ve really led our product development intuitively and listened to what our customers were asking for.

Beyond just massage oils, we created a line of balms and bath soaks that we offer to our email list members in small-batch quantities as well. We’ve incorporated our Himalayan Salt massage stones as an integral part of our line which has really been the biggest game-changer in the way people are using the products and experiencing the benefits of CBD. It’s been a really exciting journey so far, and there’s so much more to come.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every piece of entrepreneurship brings along its own challenges… but we both wake up every day excited to be creating this brand. It doesn’t feel like “work” because it’s passion! It doesn’t hurt that we are best friends first and foremost… we definitely have way too much fun working on this together.

So much of working in the CBD business is about education, so helping people overcome their hesitations about CBD and their misconceptions about the plant is a huge part of our day-to-day. Thankfully we both have a background in marketing, content development, and sales, so we came into this business equipped with everything we needed to show people why they need our product.

Our biggest challenge was definitely payment processing for our e-commerce shop. It’s been a rocky road working on the back end of our site to find a merchant processing company that is willing to work with CBD companies despite the fact that we are a fully legal and compliant business. We pride ourselves on being above-board with every piece of our business and didn’t want to compromise that by working with off-shore processing or sketchy merchant systems.

That piece is all coming to an end however as we are excited to be working with a local Arizona business who is bringing us “live’ online to allow anyone across the US to buy our product directly from our website starting in January 2019!

Please tell us about Simple Jane.
Simple Jane products are what we call “Luxury Wellness for Modern Lives.” Our massage oils, balms, and bath soaks are something you can be proud to put on your bedside table or to show off to your mom or your friends. We created this company as a cross-over brand for people looking for the benefits of cannabis, without the stigma.

For us, that started with clean, simple packaging design and the purest ingredients we can find. There’s no tie-dye or funky smelling stuff here, and you don’t need to go to a dispensary or have a Medical card to buy or use our products in any state. We wanted Simple Jane to be accessible to anyone looking to elevate their wellness experience with the benefits of CBD.

We are certainly most proud of the quality of our ingredients. That’s the “simple” part of Simple Jane. There are no preservatives, everything is organic when possible and top-shelf quality.

We get a lot of questions about the quantity of CBD in the products… people see other CBD oils and balms on the market with these high doses of CBD is there anything that “more is better.” You should always question the source of the CBD in the products you’re using, whether you’re ingesting them or putting them on your skin.

Are they triple-tested for chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides and purity? Is it hemp-derived CBD (not hemp seed oil)? Are they non-GMO? These are the things we prioritize and believe makes a huge difference in the efficacy and quality of what we’re creating.

What’s your outlook for the industry in our city?
Arizona is a great starting point for our business. Especially in Scottsdale, people put a lot of priority on taking care of themselves and finding the best resources to do so. As CBD continues to grow into a mainstream product and people get a better understanding of the benefits of hemp as a whole across the country, this will only continue to improve.

The great part about hemp-derived CBD products is that literally, everyone can benefit from them, it doesn’t matter where you are because there is a market that needs to be educated everywhere. As long as you’re prepared to field the questions and help people change their perception about how cannabis can be integrated into their lives in a “healthy, not high” way, then there is success out there waiting for you.
