Meet Cassie Scoon of Granola Barre Girl in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Scoon.

Cassie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Before Granola Barre Girl turned into a career of guiding others in transforming their relationship with food, it started as a fun Instagram page to share my nourishing and yummy food creations, passion for barre, and non-toxic beauty… but mostly food! Since I can remember, I always enjoyed being in the kitchen. Growing up, I loved wearing an apron and helping my mom prepare dinner and bake holiday treats. My mom always made sure we had a well-balanced meal every night when we sat down around the table as a family. If I really think about it, that’s probably where my appreciation for wholesome meals began; I learned the value and impact real food has on our body and mind, as well as the joy I personally gained from preparing nutritious meals for others. A little less than a year after I created @GranolaBarreGirl, I decided I wanted to take my passion for nutrition a step further, and I became Nutritious Life Certified. I was (and still am) constantly immersing myself in the field of health and wellness, with a focus on “real food” by reading, researching, and learning from other experts. I wanted to become an expert myself, and over time, I gained the knowledge base to develop my own health philosophy and consulting business. I’m also grateful to have met Keiko & Sera, the founders of Kinfolk Optimal Living, who brought me on to manage their vitalistic chiropractic studio, as well as the opportunity to offer nutritional consulting in-house. I’m always learning from them, and I’m honored to be part of a team who cares deeply about each individual’s personal healing journey.

Has it been a smooth road?
Growing GBG from posting my real life, #realfood creations (with the hope just to inspire others!) into my own nutritional consulting business was not an overnight process… or even a thought five years ago. I worked in NYC for a number of years prior to settling in Scottsdale with my husband, and my career experience there was not in health and wellness. To say the least, starting over was scary, but also exciting! I knew what I wanted to do, my knowledge and passion were both strong, and my vision was clear, but where would I begin? I was already helping and offering advice to family, friends, friends of friends, and strangers over Instagram, but that wasn’t a “business.” So, although my “why” was always there, finding my confidence to go for it outside of social media was lacking. I was kind of stuck in that saying, “If you wait until you’re ready, you’ll be waiting for the rest of your life.” I had to let go of the perfectionist in me, and just go for it. Finally, that day came. I sat down and established my LLC and from that moment on, momentum kicked in. Just like I say to my clients, it’s a journey! There is always something to learn; the learning process never ends.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I work with one-on-one with clients to achieve their individual health goals by bringing the body and mind back to balance through real, whole foods. My mission is to help others become empowered to listen to their bodies to make healthier choices without deprivation. While my health philosophy is defined by key principles, I use an individualized approach with each of my clients. We work together to set positive intentions not only in the kitchen, but also by implementing positive lifestyle behaviors. I truly believe that everyone has the ability to heal from the inside out. The latest health food trend isn’t going to get you there, but deepening your connection to food and learning to listen to your body, will.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes! I do feel like Scottsdale is a great place for health and wellness-centric businesses! When I moved here, I loved that I was able to connect with like-minded, health-conscious people pretty immediately – at barre studios (my favorite form of exercise, if you couldn’t guess!), yoga classes, health-focused centers (like Kinfolk!), farmers markets, etc. There is a large community in this area, of all ages, that are passionate about either improving their health or maintaining their healthy lifestyle, and it’s our duty, as wellness professionals to continue to serve and educate them. I know our community is always looking for more – to learn more, to experience more. So, there’s plenty of room for new businesses to contribute to raising the “health” bar here, whether your expertise is in nutrition or another wellness niche.
