Meet Carissa Gould of Mama’s Dogs in Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carissa Gould.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Carissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Mama’s Dogs was created in 2012 by me, a.k.a. Mama. I named my business after my first 3 sons. As a single mom, it was created with love to support my children and provide me with flexibility to be a very hands-on parent. I always wanted a hot dog cart and when I finally bought mine, I just knew I had to make it cute, fun and entertaining. At Mama’s Dogs, it’s not just about the weenies, it’s about the whole package. You leave with a feeling you’ve never experienced before. Here at Mama’s Dogs, we provide outstanding service leaving you with full bellies and full hearts. This is so much more than your regular ole hot dog stand. I created every detail all the way down to the handmade vintage pinup style aprons that I sew. This is the most unique stylish, vintage, shabby chic mobile food cart you’ll ever encounter…. so, I’ve been told. I don’t have any formal training in marketing or advertising but what I do have is a very strong work ethic stemming from my Nebraska roots, a desire to make people smile, and leave them with a lasting impression. Mama’s Dogs serves up good food in style. Don’t forget about my homemade amazing gourmet cookies, homemade creamy hot cocoa served with fixings including edible glitter or a refreshing glass of hand squeezed homemade lemonade. Custom caterings available. Make your party the one that everybody is still talking about because Mama was in the house. 😚

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a fairly smooth ride. At first, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. I remember buying my hot dog cart, and thinking to myself… now what?! Fortunately, everything fell into place and one thing led to another. At the beginning, I was the yes woman. After several years, I now work smarter not harder. The way I have structured my business, allows me to be at home most of the time with my 4 sons. I’m very grateful for every person and opportunity I have encountered in the past 5 1/2 years. I feel very blessed to do something that I love.

Please tell us about Mama’s Dogs .
My business is unlike anything you’ve ever seen or experienced. I have people of all ages/genres recognize me and talk about my business. It’s the whole package and experience you get when visiting my stand. I call myself the “walt of weenies”! Walt Disney had a vision for Disneyland and I had a vision for a hot dog stand. It seriously is the cutest/coolest thing ever. I am most proud of my hard work, dedication and drive to succeed. I have never given up on myself or my company. Currently, I specialize in corporate caterings, weddings, birthdays, class reunions, corporate picnics, etc. I use all Vienna Beef products for my hot dogs/polish dogs. It is a very recognizable brand that has been in business for 125 years. I use all quality top notch products when creating my homemade products, i.e. Cookies, cocoa, lemonade. Once you experience Mama’s Dogs, you’ll know what sets me apart.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
No. You learn best by going through it. I would not know some of the things I’ve experienced and learned had I not actually lived it.
