Meet Cailin O’Hara of Sun Tree Healing Arts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cailin O’Hara.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cailin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I found Chinese medicine and acupuncture in my 20s when I developed a number of health problems that my doctors weren’t able to diagnose or treat. It was a really difficult time because I didn’t know what was wrong with me, and I worried I would keep getting worse. I finally decided to try acupuncture as a last-ditch effort.

I was amazed by how much better I felt overall after my first treatment. At the time, I was planning on finishing my degree in counseling, but I realized that a career in holistic medicine was the best way for me to help others. So, I took the plunge and indebted myself to a 4-year, full-time master’s program in Chinese medicine and acupuncture in Portland, OR. It was incredibly rigorous and certainly the most life-changing experience I’ve had. Once I graduated, I knew I wanted to relocate and start my practice. I’ve always felt called to the desert and Arizona, so when I had the opportunity to move here, I was ecstatic.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of it has been smooth and some of it has been really challenging. When you are a healthcare provider, you just want to spend your time helping people. But in my career field, you are also often an entrepreneur and start your own practice… and that comes with its own set of challenges. So, I would say the challenging aspects have been learning how to run a business and do all the behind-the-scenes work when what I most want to be doing is connecting with my patients and providing this incredible medicine to people that need it.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sun Tree Healing Arts – what should we know?
I am board certified in Chinese medicine, Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology, and a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine… but generally just refer to myself as an acupuncturist and holistic healthcare provider. When I founded Sun Tree Healing Arts, my vision was to create a healing center that offered medicine with the power to heal across all levels: mind, body and spirit.

Every acupuncturist is unique, so I think all of us in the field have something wonderful to offer. My unique skill sets are rooted in how easily and deeply I can connect with the patients I see. I have an innate ability to really understand my patients, where they’re coming from and what they need. I also spend a great deal of time with them, and I think that’s a huge part of the healing process.

In general, I offer acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, shiatsu massage, Chinese herbs, guided meditation, nutrition counseling and life coaching. I do specialize in working with mental health like PTSD and anxiety, but I also often treat chronic health conditions and pain.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Hands down, it’s authenticity. I had no idea how important being my most authentic self would become, but I think that when you run a practice and it represents who you are at your core, you absolutely must be authentic. It’s also something I work with my patients around: honoring your truth. If you know who you are, what you want, what’s important to you and where you want to go in life, then you will be on the path toward success. If you waver and doubt yourself, it can be easy to be derailed. So, no matter what you want to do, I think aligning with exactly who you are is the way.
