Today we’d like to introduce you to Brannon Kleinlein.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I opened the original Last Exit Live in 2003 in a small shopping center in Tempe, AZ. The venue quickly became a hot spot for showcasing great local and touring acts and continued successfully until I sold it in 2009 to pursue other opportunities. In 2012 I decided to look for a new location to re-open the Last Exit Live venue concept and found a property in the Historic Warehouse District of Downtown Phoenix. The venue opened in early 2013 and has been bringing in national touring acts as well as great local shows since that time.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have definitely been many challenges. Major construction on our block in 2014 that essentially took away all our normal parking for about 4 months made for a very difficult time. For the first year and a half, the venue only had a beer & wine liquor license which limited our sales and clientele until we could upgrade and afford to buy a full liquor license. Also, because the venue was “south of the tracks” in the Warehouse district it took a while for people to get used to and comfortable coming down for shows since the majority of nightlife in Downtown Phoenix was a few blocks north of us.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Last Exit Live story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a live music and event venue that specializes in showcasing great bands, shows, & events in an intimate setting & location. Our emphasis is on high-quality production with great sound and lighting that enhances both the customer and performers experience. Along with featuring live performances we also rent out the venue for many different types of events such as birthday parties, reunions, happy hours, corporate events, and much more. Our attention to detail and focus on making sure that our clients need for their events are met is our main priority. We take pride in building long-term relationships with anyone we do business with so we can continue to work with them on future events.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Good luck along the way certainly helps but more than anything it’s about recognizing opportunity when it’s in front of you and having the courage to act on it even if you don’t know where it will lead you. I am fortunate to have great friends and business relationships which have supported & helped me get to where I am today.
