Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Willey.
Brandon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Over the last 10 years, I’ve developed a wide range of executive leadership experience in sales, marketing and business operations. Prior to taking the helm as CEO at FetchRev, I have helped establish and grow scalable sales, marketing, customer success and fulfillment teams in both the Silicon and Phoenix Valleys at Reputation.com, Recruiting.com, FrontSpin and Hopscratch.
Now back in Tempe, Arizona, where I previously started and exited my first venture, redPear, the FetchRev team and I now build software that helps businesses to engage their existing customers, grow their revenue, and drive repeat visits and referrals.
Throughout this time, I’ve developed a broad knowledge of the local digital advertising ecosystem with extensive experience in social media, email and search marketing, retargeting, geotargeting, segmentation, automation, machine learning and more. I’m also passionate about civics and human services and sit on the board of directors for the Tempe Community Council. A more detailed timeline can be found on my LinkedIn here: LinkedIn.com/in/bwilley.
Has it been a smooth road?
No journey worth taking is ever smooth. For example, if you want to visit Mooney Falls in the Havasupai, and you choose to take a helicopter into the village to avoid the ten-mile hike down, you will still need to hike another three miles further and scale a not-insignificant cliff to the bottom.
There is no other way. So, while there are some shortcuts, the reward at the end of the journey often dictates struggle in order to gain the appreciation for that which was accomplished.
I took over a company that had failed in its first attempt at survival in San Francisco. I was a latter part of that first attempt and thus had the opportunity to learn where changes could be made at the start of its new life in Tempe, as FetchRev.
The first challenge was taking over a small client base and a handful of employees with significant baggage related to the challenges the previous iteration experienced. Over the last 18 months we have established a new vision, new values, new brand, new team, new go-to-market strategy, new pricing and packaging, new product roadmap, new value propositions and messaging and as a result we have had to make cuts to some customers, make layoffs to some entire teams and individual team members, all with slower growth than originally planned and desired. However, as a result, we are now a strong, healthy, viable company and team with clear alignment about our direction and growth trajectory over the coming months and years.
The second challenge is not less significant but much less tactical in nature. I have often struggled with communicating as transparently as possible with the caveat that there are still elements to a business that need to remain confidential or closely held, at certain times and for a multitude of reasons. Walking this fine line is often difficult and fuzzy from the perspective of those contributors on the team that lack the full breadth of perspective due to their roles and responsibilities.
And, this lack of perspective sometimes leads to the last challenge: keeping a team engaged and excited for the awesome future we are building together while still remaining passionate about the current state of affairs, current customers, and current issues; with the fundamental understanding that doing big, monumental things often takes time combined with careful, thoughtful execution of many little things along the way.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
First and foremost, we believe in the dream of business ownership, and that it is our responsibility to create repeat customers and generate predictable revenue for business owners. And we pursue this with strict adherence to our Esprit de Corps:
You Get Shit Done, are Efficient and Innovative and Do the Right Thing, At All Costs. You Earn the Trust of Others and are Devoted to Everyone’s Success. And above all, you believe that Achievement is Fucking Awesome.
We believe that it is our mission to drive return foot traffic and repeat revenue back into local businesses by collecting and monetizing their current and past customers’ data–to become the beating heart of each business, continually engaging its customers and maximizing lifetime value.
Ultimately, a local business wants to bring its customers back in the door repeatedly and predictably with a minimal ongoing time investment and we believe that the best way to drive a direct response from those customers is to deliver the right message, at the right time, in the right place and with the right call to action.
To achieve this, we’ve created a fully automated direct response marketing software that guarantees persistent engagement with a business’ existing and past customers through demographically-segmented digital campaigns, like Buy Now Offers and Claim Now Coupons, delivered with optimized content at the times when and digital channels (email, SMS, Facebook, Twitter, and more) where these customer groups are most likely to take action. This not only will save local business owners more time but will quantitatively increase their current digital marketing conversions by at least 200%, fetching even more revenue from their customer base.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, absolutely! Phoenix is among the best cities in the country for any business.
