Meet Bob Maguire of Axolotl Biologix in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bob Maguire.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bob. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was in telecom and IT most of my career. I was most definitely bored and felt that I was making no impact on the world. I went back to the WP Carey School of Business in 2011 to get my Executive MBA. It lit a spark inside of me and after starting to distribute regenerative medicine products, I saw that there was no real value as a distributor. You own no patents or intellectual property, you are not conducting any research or science. I started researching what would be involved to become a manufacturer and to create a company that was focused on creating regenerative medicine products that could positively impact people’s lives. I reached out to the FDA and did extensive research and wrote the business plan that is today, Axolotl Biologix.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I feel that it has been a smooth journey for the most part. I have been an entrepreneur most of my life, so I most definitely don’t expect things to just fall into place. The key is creating a plan and executing and following your own road map. The main struggle has been keeping our people focused on what is in front of us and trying not to get distracted by people or shiny objects.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Axolotl Biologix is a biotech or regenerative medicine company focused on science and research to create better regenerative products to improve the quality of life for people around the world.

Today, we are focused on orthopedics and wound care with three products on the market. We have another eight products on our road map that will need FDA approval. Some of these products are skin substitutes, cardiac patches, and blood vessels that are bio-compatible.

We have an exclusive license on a patent using Tropoelastin in medical applications. Tropoelastin is the precursor to elastin, which is throughout our bodies. We are the only ones in the world that can use this in a medical application.

We also are part of an NIH research grant for a wound healing solution for diabetic foot ulcers.

I am most proud of the team of people that we have put together. What separates us from our competitors is that we are a science and research based company that also focuses on the importance of the clinical application of our products. We collect data that is based on actual scans with qualitative and quantitative analysis and we don’t put merit in anecdotal feedback.

What were you like growing up?
I was born in New York City and grew up in Connecticut. I was always active as a kid and couldn’t sit still and focus. I definitely had ADD my whole life, but now as I am older, I have learned to manage it and use it to my benefit. I was very loud and outgoing in my younger years, I’ve learned the importance of active listening.

About five years ago I got very interested in regenerative medicine and studied it voraciously. I believe in the mantra of thinking critically, ask questions, and demand evidence. I feel that our company culture is as such.
