Meet Blake Shaffer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Shaffer.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Art was introduced to me at an early age and has always been a part of who I am. As I’ve grown, I’ve learned that art is in everything and should be appreciated as such. I served six years active duty in the Air Force from 2008-14. While serving, I experienced different cultures and forms of art from several different countries. My life experiences shape my art and self-expression. My son is a huge driving factor for me. He keeps my heart young and inspires me all the time. I wouldn’t be who I am today without him. He is my greatest creation.

Please tell us about your art.
I paint and customize designer toys. I’m also learning basic sculpting in hopes to create my toy soon. I believe my art is a direct representation of myself and where I’m at in life when its created.I’m always changing and striving to learn more. To push myself and put everything I can into the work that I do. I believe that art should be an extension of who you are.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I do think the roles have changed. As the world grows so do we. Art is ever evolving and changes with the time. Some artists are ahead of it, and it takes years for it to become relevant if it ever does. When used as a tool to communicate directly to global issues it can create movements. I hope to one day be a part of the collective and contribute something to this in a positive way. I draw reference and inspiration from everywhere, so local, national and international events play a part in my creative process.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
