Meet Ben and Janae Peterson of BPetersonDesign in Cave Creek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben and Janae Peterson.

Ben and Janae, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
BPetersonDesign started in Montrose, Colorado in 2008 by husband wife team, Ben and Janae Peterson. Our knowledge of high performing Website Design and Digital Marketing began when we were partners for many years in an online costume business before we decided to start BPetersonDesign. We learned early on about the wonderful world of Google, Pay-Per-Click, a great ranking website, and social media marketing such as Facebook and Instagram. We learned what worked and what didn’t work.

When we decided to leave our partnership and start our own business that helps other business owners grow their business, that’s when we started helping hundreds of businesses in our community. We wanted to be a different kind of website design and digital marketing agency. So we decided to start building our foundation on no contracts so we can prove our worth every month, no duplicated content so you remain relevant and the best result for customers, and only accepting clients that are a good fit for us and us them.

We are strategy based, and that’s what makes our company so effective. Everything we create, everything we post, everything we deliver – has a strategy. The #1 misconception people have about Google ranking and growing your business is they think there’s one secret. We follow guidelines and utilize our partnership with Google, watch the analytics, make adjustments to the strategy, and keep pushing on. Everything we write (blog, Facebook posts, website content, etc.) is handwritten and original. We do not scrape, share, or duplicate content – this keeps you in good standing.

In 2017, we publicly announced our company has gone nationwide. Our team grew and we moved into a new office to support our growth. In 2019, we announced the opening of our second location in Cave Creek, Arizona. We have quickly grown to love the close-knit community and support of the businesses and…. Well, everyone! Shortly after the opening of our new Cave Creek office, we signed on many new clients in the area and we continue to grow every week.

From the beginning of our business relationship with clients, we are transparent with our services. You are provided analytics directly from the source (Facebook and Google) so you can see how our services are performing. Unlike many companies, we work alongside Google and Facebook. All our employees are certified in their field and continue education the whole time they are employed with our company. Our whole team continues to utilize the best practices in social media, website design, graphic design, PPC (pay-per-click) campaigns, and even real estate photography and drone services.

We work closely with our clients in every department. Every company that hires us is assigned their point-of-contact to assist them. This makes the whole experience personable and custom to you. Your point-of-contact is familiar with you and your business and continues to work in your favor and learn about your industry to push forward.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with every aggressively growing business, we had our trials along the way. The biggest obstacle has been finding the right people on our team. Finding talented, driven, and self-motivated team players who want to be part of something big has been difficult. However, when we do find them and they are fully trained – it’s a powerhouse! You can feel the momentum and the energy as soon as you walk through that door.

We are setting ourselves up to be a lifestyle for all our employees here at all our branches. We don’t want it to feel like a job. The happier our team is, the better the performance we see. And finding the right people who can work in such an environment, has been a challenge.

One of the most memorable instances of the many challenges that come with growing a business would be right after Ben and I decided to work full time for BPetersonDesign and take that ‘leap-of-faith’. We were forced to make this decision prematurely from what we had planned to due to personal circumstances and decided to tough it out and give it our all. While we were doing well for a ‘side-hustle’, once we put the full weight of our only source of income in our household, we quickly found out that quick aggressive growth was needed. We ended up going through a rough patch with the business not keeping up with expenses that lasted roughly three months. At that time, we were not only three payments late in our house but could not afford food for our family of four. Ben’s parents decided to give us a 50lb sack of potatoes, and a steady supply of eggs that their chickens were providing – and that was what we ate for those three months. When we were at the end of our line, and seriously considering our life choices and if this business was going to make it, we finally caught our ‘big-break’ in the form of a large client signing on with nearly all of our services at once. With new-found vigor, and a little extra coin in our pocket, we were able to push for the growth needed and this ‘break’ gave us what we needed to build a successful business.

Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
BPetersonDesign is a strategy based Website Design and Digital Marketing Agency – with flair! We offer everything that supports the growth of a business. Like gears on a machine, the more of our team and services you utilize – the stronger and more power you will see. We offer high performing web design, effective digital marketing, PPC Services, strategy-based Graphic Design – and recently added on Brand Photography.

What sets us apart is that our company is completely structured around the success of our clients and the performance of our services. We are more interested in clients utilizing the right fit for their current marketing package than we are in talking them into a larger/more expensive marketing strategy, that is not the best fit for their business at that point in time. Because of this drive to make our clients’ businesses succeed, we do not require contracts of any kind for any of our packages – businesses ebb and flow, and your marketing strategy should ebb and flow to match.

We employ in-house only! If that wasn’t enough, our Core Values are what drives our team. We are always studying analytics and data – and adjusting our strategies to keep them effective. We truly have your best interests at heart, and wrap our entire business model around that – We don’t start making real money unless your business succeeds and we prove our worth enough for you to sign up with more of our services.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We haven’t always been as picky with our clients, and as driven to make sure that the fit is right, to begin with. Unhappy clients because of a bad fit, will never be happy with our services, and we won’t be happy to provide a service that is not appreciated. It is difficult to have this larger picture in mind when you’re scraping to pay the bills each month as you are fighting tooth and nail to create a successful business. We now understand that while we feel that we are the only company in the world to offer the services and client support that we do, that doesn’t mean that we are the best fit for you personally, your business, or your plans. Those that are a good fit for us, end up making work more enjoyable, and success more easily obtainable. Our job is to properly translate who you are and what you can provide that is the best fit for your clients, and our business is no exception to that!
