Meet Becca Fernandez of South East Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Fernandez.

Hi Becca, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I developed an interest in photography as a young girl. I would watch America’s Next Top Model RELIGIOUSLY, and loved everything from the modeling, to the style/design of each shoot. I loved just staring at all the beautiful pictures. I desperately wanted to be a model, but never felt I was pretty enough to be successful, because I didn’t think I looked like any of the models I was seeing on tv and all over social media. This really affected how I viewed myself for a long time, but eventually I found that stepping out of my comfort zone and in front of the camera, no matter how awkward, or not “camera ready” I felt, I could look at the photos taken of me, and see beauty in them as well. That feeling is really what pushed me to photography. I am on a mission to help everyone I work with walk away with that warm feeling of finally being able to see themselves the way those who know them and love them the most see them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest struggle (as with most things) has been not getting in my own way. I am working hard to silence my own self-doubts. Art is very personal to me, and it is a very vulnerable place to put out into the world something that rings in as beauty in your own eyes, and not worry if others will not see it the same way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a natural light, lifestyle photographer. I specialize in candid photography with warm, natural tones. I love letting my clients just relax into natural settings, where I can capture their real expressions and emotions together, as opposed to strictly posed settings with forced emotions. My clients’ favorite shots always come from the photos that are taken during the “off”moments when they aren’t expecting to be photographed.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I just encourage everyone to find a photographer who matches your style, and book yourself a shoot. Don’t wait for the perfect body, or the perfect kids, or some big life event. See yourself the way your loved ones see you.
