Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Neubauer.
Amber, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started to contract as a Speech Language Pathologist after graduating with my Master’s degree in 2005. Through my work as a contractor, I realized that I was capable of also providing the support that the agencies I contracted with and I reached out to a friend who I went to school with and together we decided to form Essential Therapy Solutions in 2007 with the vision of providing occupational, physical and speech therapies. We began our journey in becoming a Qualified Vendor with the Division of Developmental Disabilities in Arizona as well as becoming In Network with several health insurance companies. We were also able to contract ourselves to school districts and subcontract with other agencies. Always looking to grow, we were invited to join a cooperative of approximately 20 other agencies in the valley in 2013 and together we are the largest early intervention contractor in the state under Arizona Cooperative Therapies. This has also allowed Essential Therapy Solutions to expand outside of occupational, physical and speech therapies and add service coordination and developmental special instruction as well. I have served on the Board of Directors for Arizona Cooperative Therapies and am currently serving my second term on the Board as Vice-President.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Overall, it has been a smooth road. Keeping our growth to a steady pace has allowed us to be able to manage any growing pains that may have come our way. Changes in state contracts would be one struggle that has been unavoidable, however, communication within our agency and with our community partners have allowed us to manage these changes with a bit more ease.
Essential Therapy Solutions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a home health agency that provides therapy services in the areas of occupational, physical, speech, developmental instruction and service coordination. We have two separate programs, one providing services for the birth – 3yrs population (early intervention), and a separate contract providing services to those individuals ages 3yrs and up.
I am proud that our agency has continued to grow and thrive despite starting at a time when small businesses where having to close their doors. We have continued to use networking and looking for new relationships that will continue our growth.
The owners of Essential Therapy Solutions are Speech Language Pathologists. As we have grown, I have had to step out of the field so I could focus on the day to day business operations. Despite this, we have a provider first mentality. We work hard to remember what it is like in the field and accommodate our providers as much as possible. We do not want to lose the perspective of our providers when developing policies and procedures and we strive to keep this personal touch.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Personally, I define success as longevity. Our continued growth and the loyalty of our providers means the most to me. Many of our new providers join us based on referrals and in my opinion that speaks volumes of what others feel about our support and integrity. We do not have a lot of turnover and those that have been with us have been contracted or employed with us for years. We have become a family!
