Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Kierman.
Allison, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I spent much of my youth with my grandparents on their farm and ranch. The traditional idea that you have to sell the farm to pay the taxes made becoming an estate planning attorney an easy choice.
I first moved to the Valley in 2005 and worked for a big law firm in downtown Phoenix. I spent 10 years working for various big law firms and ultimately became a partner.
In 2017, I decided to start Kierman Law and focus on estate planning and probate litigation. The demands of being a partner in a larger firm did not mesh with my goals for my family and I found myself spending more time in offices and conference rooms than working with people.
Kierman Law has been a wonderful experience. I spend my days working with clients, of all ages, at all asset levels, and in every social demographic. I also have time to focus on many charitable and board activities so that I can show my children the importance of being involved in your local community.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a professional working mom juggling client demands, my desire to offer exemplary client service, and endeavoring to be present in the daily lives of my children is a constant struggle. It’s a struggle that many women (and men) face. I have been fortunate to surround myself with a community that supports me, personally and professionally. Dance carpool, that says it all!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
After practicing law in the Valley for more than a decade, I founded Kierman Law, to offer personalized service to her clients. I concentrate my practice on guiding families through the wills, trusts, and estate process and probate litigation.
I understand that making plans to ensure your family’s future and financial security is complicated and may involve sensitive issues. As a mother of two, I have the knowledge and understanding of how difficult it is to think of leaving your children with a guardian and will help you carve the best plan for ensuring your children’s future success. As a dog mother of two, I also understand how important pets are to their families and help ensure proper caretaking for them as well.
I am a natural care-taker and will protect your family’s needs in a confidential, detailed, and sophisticated manner. I provide unique and creative solutions to difficult estate planning questions and never lose sight of the big picture. I can be entrusted to help you allocate life insurance proceeds, minimize estate taxes, protect your assets from creditors, and control distribution of assets to young children, special needs family members, family members with failing health, and family members who have made questionable life choices. My goal is to ensure that your estate goes to whom you want in the way you want.
I also provide general business consulting and counseling for those families who are also business owners and demand advice on business structuring.
I coordinate my efforts with financial planners, accountants, and other advisors to ensure consistency and verify that all aspects of the estate plan are properly implemented.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a child was driving in the car with my grandparents and listening to all the things they had to share with me. My grandmother and I would talk about all the books we were reading. My grandfather taught me most of what I know about the business. Even today, I can go home and my grandfather will talk to me about his farm and ranching business. Last Thanksgiving, he gave me a 45-minute lesson on Texas oil and mineral leases. I’m thinking of putting my grandparent’s story down on paper because it’s amazing what you can learn from previous generations if you just listen.
