Hi Aimee, so great to have you join us again. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please take a minute to briefly introduce yourself?
Hi! My name is Aimee Blake. I founded Sugar Sugar in 2012.

So how is sugaring hair removal different than traditional waxing?
Sugaring hair removal is a proficiency skill. It’s an art form. Think of sugaring more like hair stylists. The longer one works at this skill, the discernibly better they will get at the skill.

It seems as if consumers love the service much more than traditional wax. Why hasn’t sugaring ever been done on a larger scale?
The training. Because sugaring is a proficiency skill, it takes longer to learn and train. This is why waxing franchises have taken off so easily. Training doesn’t need to be as thorough within the waxing world. But consumers want sugar. When we realized how much better sugar was for the skin, and how much more consumers wanted it, we knew it was just a matter of building the systems and the training.

You also provide an organic airbrush spray tan. What is your tan like?
The tan is incredible. We have had our tan built specifically for us. Our tan is created using enzymes from sugar. It leaves skin naturally golden doesn’t smell bad and does not dry out the outer layer of skin. We’ve won so many awards for our spray tan solution. You can only get it at Sugar Sugar™

Your products and services are all unique to Sugar Sugar. How hard was this process and how valuable has it been toward your brand building?
We wanted all of our products and services to be built around what our clients love. And we wanted everything to work well with sugaring and Sugar Sugar™. The process wasn’t ” hard”. It was more about being unrelenting in what we wanted from an experience at Sugar Sugar to include. Having everything work so well together is incredibly rewarding, convenient and simple.

Obviously, consistency is important. How have you been able to train staff for sugaring hair removal?
Years ago we realized the only way to grow Sugar Sugar was consistency. And the only way provide consistency was a unique and thorough online training center. So we built It’s our online portal for training, support, quizzes and further education. It’s probably the most important thing we do because it creates consistency and helps our Sugarists in every way. The portal has grown and changed over eight years. is what will help us as we push into franchising.

It seems Sugar Sugar is a disruptor! Do you see they typical pushback within the industry?
A little bit. When we started, we had a lot of people telling us sugaring was the same as “hard wax”. It’s not. Wax bonds chemically through heat. Sugar bonds molecularly, it’s bound and wants to stay together. So those days are behind us. Now we have other people “sugaring just like Sugar Sugar”. We take it as a complement. We know what we do. We will continue to provide the services and products the clients want. Consumers drive markets, so we listen to the market and science.
