Meet Adam Hecht

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Hecht.

Hi Adam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Born in Rockford, Illinois, and moved down here in 2008 for my last year of high school. Went to college at Arizona State. Graduated with Bachelor’s in Film in 2014. For my last semester, I took part in a project that was a hybrid professional and student project at ASU. Fell into Post Sound near the end of that project.

When I graduated, I went with the film to a Re-Recording Mixer who works downtown at First Studios named Abbott Miller. I finished the film as my first “gig” as a foley artist. Worked as his foley person ever since. Fast forward to 2018, I left my day job at Harkins and was trying to figure out what to do next. Foley didn’t pay that well and didn’t happen too often. Someone eventually messaged me and told me they got my name from a Harkins manager.

They wanted someone to do Production Sound for their short film. I hadn’t done it before so decided to try. Loved it. Got the best advice I have ever gotten on that film. “Never be afraid to contact your contacts.” After that, I contacted some people including the Production Sound Mixer from the 2014 hybrid shoot. He connected me to Justin Moschcau.

Another mixer here in the Valley. He became my mentor and immediately helped jumped start my career. I have been a full-time Production Sound Mixer since January 2019. I can expand on more info if you have any questions.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Never smooth. Overcame many obstacles including the biggest obstacle of all, self-doubt and Imposter Syndrome.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Production Sound Mixer for the TV and Film Industry. Basically, I am responsible for capturing the Dialogue on set. That is probably the simplest way to put it but it entails way more than putting a mic somewhere and pressing record.

Sound Department has connections to most Departments on set. From Camera, lighting, Costuming, Post, and continuity. I guess you can say I specialize in knowledge of Zaxcom Equipment. One of the most innovative equipment manufacturers in my industry. If you search YouTube for Buffalo Bills Pepsi, you will find a video entitled “Good Luck Pepsi”.

That is probably one I am very proud of. I am not sure if I know what sets me apart but I heard someone describe me once. I am very Hungry. Not in the sense of food but in the sense of wanting more to learn, to be exposed to, etc.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Not a specific memory but probably two different content themes:

1. There was always music in my house whether it was just the stereo or my father playing/singing it since he is a musician who does play out.

2. Watching a lot of movies growing up.
