Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatum Nies.
Tatum, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my lash journey in 2016 when I was only 20 years old. At that time I had no idea when I started school I was going to fall in love with doing lashes. Let’s rewind for a second, before school I was working two jobs trying to make ends meet for my son and I. When I decided to start pursuing my career I honestly had no idea what it was that I wanted to do. So, I went out on a limb and I decided on aesthetics school. I knew regardless of what it was that I actually ended up doing I loved all things beauty! Lost in school learning all things skin.. and to be 100% honest it’s not something I enjoyed. Then.. I heard about lashes. This phenomenal industry where you get to make connections with women who all share the same love for one thing.. beauty!
Fast forward to now,
Over the 5 years I’ve been able to create both professional and personal relationships with all of my clients.
This has allowed me to grow big enough to hire an Aesthetician and add more aesthetic services to enhance the growth of my brand.
I’m honored to be able to continue to empower women to be the best version of themselves, and not only feel beautiful but to understand that anything is possible!
Being in this Industry has given me more time with my son, my life, and has given me the opportunity to make my dreams become reality!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest struggle is separating myself from my business. People think “oh you work for yourself, you can make your own schedule.” Yes, that may be true, but I find people don’t talk enough about how when you work for yourself you’re actually working 24/7. Not only are you a business owner, but you’re also a receptionist, Instagram Beauty Influencer, an accountant, a manager, and a therapist. Not to mention you still have a personal life where you’re a mom, a girlfriend and you have to find time to through in some self care to stay sane. Along with finding time to detach from the business, now that we’re trying to grow and expand it’s been exceptionally hard to find reliable people. This industry typically takes time to build a clientele and finding people who want to put in the time to start their career has been difficult to say the least.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I personally specialize in Eyelash Extensions, it’s something I picked up and new I’d love doing right off that bat. Honestly, I’m not sure if it’s the satisfaction of seeing how happy the client is after their service, or being able to talk all day everyday! Probably both. I’m truly humbled that I’ve been able to make a name for myself at such a young age and have a thriving business in hopes to continue grow into my very own salon.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest supporters are the people who are closest to me. I wouldn’t have branched out on my own if it wasn’t for my Bestfriend, Rhiannon, pushing me to leave a job that I was not happy at. That was the start of it all, I left a situation with nothing, no idea how to run a business or even a spot to work in. The marketing credit should go to my boyfriend, Zack. He’s supported me through the long days, and busy work weekends, & given me the advice and tools to stay on track to grow into something bigger. Lastly, Miranda, my partner in crime. It’s been a wild ride trying to grow her clientele and regardless she’s continued to stick by my side. She has put her faith in me to support her and her family. I’m honored to have such an amazing team of people by my side.
