Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Mishol.
Hi Maya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Maya Mishol, I’m a mother of 3 and an Interior Designer. I am originally from Israel and recently I moved here, to Chandler Arizona with my family. I started my career as a chemist until I decided to make a change in my life and start doing what I really love – to design spaces, and in 2017 I opened MAYA DESIGN LLC that specializes in residentials remodeling and I am known for my modern design with colorful clean lines.
I took the accuracy, irritation, and organization skills from chemistry into the design world, and along with my experience, creativity and education I can help my clients fulfill their goals.
I take each client through a collaborative process where I determine the project scope of work and budget, design their home, supervise the construction, install furnishings and coordinate everything in between.
Every project has its own personality according to my client’s needs and lifestyle.
I love to design, I love the process, I love working with my clients, impact their life and help them create the environment they want to live in.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well, it is not easy to be an interior designer, here in the US or anywhere else, and to be a good Interior designer, for me it means I constantly need to learn, improve my knowledge base and keep recreating myself and my designs. This profession also requires the ability to lead a client to their goals and vision. I glean from them what they “see” and turn it into a creative, built environment.
For me the most complicated thing was to move here to the US, I had to learn a lot of new things and accommodate myself but I’m grateful for where I am and what I’ve accomplished in my own 2 hands.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
MAYA DESIGN LLC specializes in residential remodeling. Whether my client just closed the deal on a new house or has lived in their cozy home for decades I can help them out. With his vision in mind, I provide the guidance he needs to remodel, renovate or build his home with the confidence that it is going to be exactly what he wants and needs. I will help him create a home that tells his story.
The design process with me includes 4 phases, A new project will begin with me getting a better understanding about the project, budget and time frame, this is the first phase where I collect all the data from my clients. We will set up a phone call and then a meeting for me to take pictures and measurements and also to get a better understanding about my client’s needs and dreams. only then the design process will actually start. We will go room by room and talk about the interior design concept and my client’s vision, this is how the second phase begins. During this phase I will also select the materials and colors, will make the CAD drawings and 3D renderings etc. At the end of this phase my client will get the Design Book that includes all the design elements mentioned above. I will review it with my client for his approval before the construction phase begins. I will also review it with the contractor\ builder to ensure they have a perfect understanding of the project. The third phase is the contraction phase.Throughout this process I will conduct site visits to ensure that my clients needs and desires are being met. The fourth and final phase is the furniture\furnishing phase.once everything is approved, orders will be placed for furniture and decor pieces. The goods will be received and installed, I will set each room to create a balanced look and then, finally, the time has come for the big reveal and the design process is complete!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think one of the most important elements in my business is accuracy. Residential remodeling are really complicated projects, everything from the trimming on the lampshade, the color of the piping on the scatter cushion, to the light switches and cupboard handles need attention, in addition, I need to be in touch with so many people to be able to execute my design – contractors, specialists, subs, vendors, etc. Usually, those details get neglected and skimmed over or generally left out. details are just as an important underpinning of interior design. Details should not be obvious but they should be right, enhancing the overall feel of a room. Each cabinet needs to be in the exact size, each tile needs to be in the right direction, each color should match and each material needs to be accurate, there is no room for mistakes!
