Life & Work with Kristin Kauffman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Kauffman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I sought out massage therapy for myself to cope with the side effects from substance use disorder. I had no idea it would change my life! I had no idea it would change my life! For me, receiving my first massage was the spark that lit the path to self-love and awareness–a world I was totally unfamiliar with.

That massage showed me it was possible not to feel like crap all that time. Soon after I was in counseling, seeing a psychiatrist, and getting healthy. I enrolled in massage school the following year, knowing that I wanted to have a business helping others to see that it’s possible to feel good! After graduating from school in 2019, I started my mobile private practice in 2020, opened my studio in December of 2021, and have been fulfilling my mission each day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always bumps along this path we call life. For me, self-doubt and worry were my biggest obstacles. I’m still a work in progress for sure, but the tools that I have learned over the last 5 years have helped me to not allow fear to make decisions for me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed massage therapist. I specialize in Sarga Bodywork and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi. These two unique modalities along with my warm, intuitive nature set me apart from others. Sarga Bodywork is a slow, barefoot massage that delivers deep tissue therapeutic myofascial work. The fabric strap fastened to the massage table is used for stability and to add tensional and gravitational force to apply deep consistent effective pressure. Sarga helps reduce muscle tension, improves blood circulation, and decreases restrictions in the fascia.

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi is a slow, rhythmic full-body massage known for its long flowing, ocean-like strokes. Hawaiian Lomi Lomi has been around for years, with its roots in ancient Polynesia. Many refer to Lomi Lomi as an experience because of how deeply soothing and rejuvenating it is for the mind, body, and soul.

What makes you happy?
Where do I begin? So many things! Conversations with my 3-year-old. Laughs that make my stomach hurt. Any song that makes me emotional. Tacos. Giving someone their first massage.

Witnessing children achieve tasks that seem simple to us as adults. Watching people dance. Trying new foods. It’s the little things that are big to me and these happenings simply fill my heart with so much joy and happiness!
